Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, announced good and honorable news: Hanoi, representing Vietnam, was awarded the flag by the organizing committee of the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad to host the 2026 competition.

Accordingly, there will be about 3,000 contestants and observers from about 80 countries and territories attending.

“This will be an opportunity for us to promote, introduce, and propagate the culture, people, lifestyle, cuisine... of Vietnam to international friends. In particular, our students will have the opportunity to exchange, learn, and get acquainted with students from countries around the world ,” Mr. Cuong informed.

According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the exam is expected to be held at a major university in the capital, fully meeting the requirements for modern facilities and equipment.

The 2025 International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics recently took place in India (the 9th year Vietnam participated in this competition) with the participation of more than 300 contestants from 66 countries and territories. All 5 Hanoi students representing Vietnam in this competition excellently won medals. Among them, there was 1 Gold Medal, 3 Silver Medals and 1 Bronze Medal. This is the second consecutive year that all members of the Vietnamese team won medals (a feat first achieved in 2024 in Brazil).
