Speaking at the conference, Mr. Bui Nguyen Anh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) said that the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program, which is being implemented synchronously nationwide in the 2021-2025 period, following the success of the previous period, has become one of the important solutions to promote economic development in rural areas in the direction of promoting local advantages, increasing value, creating jobs, and increasing income for people.
Up to now, the whole country has had over 132 points of introduction and sale of OCOP products, with over 17,000 products recognized as meeting OCOP standards from 3-5 stars, of which over 120 products have met national 5-star standards.
Among the OCOP products, there are many products that are regional specialties, agricultural products, processed foods, beverages, handicrafts, medicinal herbs, natural cosmetics, and even community tourism services.
Mr. Bui Nguyen Anh Tuan spoke at the conference.
"OCOP products have affirmed their position in the domestic market, even gradually reaching out to the international market," Mr. Bui Nguyen Anh Tuan emphasized, saying that this result not only reflects the efforts of localities, businesses and cooperatives, but also affirms the correctness of the policy of developing OCOP associated with new rural construction.
In addition to the achieved results, the program also has limitations and difficulties: Funding support from the State budget is still limited; points of sale have not been widely introduced and promoted on media platforms; lack of websites, social networks, QR codes to introduce products, limiting the ability to reach customers... Along with that, there is a lack of connection between points of sale to form a consumption chain; lack of retail and customer care skills; limited display space, no product experience area; production scale of many entities is still small; ability to innovate and improve product quality is not high...
In the period of 2026 - 2030, when the OCOP Program is approved, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will propose that the Program be continued to be implemented synchronously, widely, integrated, and combined with cultural and tourism experiences; strengthen the construction of facilities, human resources and select points of sale in potential locations (tourist areas, rest stops, etc.).
The program aims to increase the rate of 4-5 star OCOP products nationwide in general and in each locality in particular, developing in accordance with 2-level local authorities; increasing participants, expanding connection and consumption channels, linking OCOP with tourism. Not only that, the program also aims to increase the application of digital economy in management, operation, connecting e-commerce platforms; upgrading packaging, labels, QR codes, traceability, quality control; developing OCOP products to ensure sustainability and environmental protection...
Sharing the same view, Deputy Director of the Center for Investment Promotion for Industry and Trade Development, Department of Trade Promotion Nguyen Ba Hai emphasized: "The program 'One Commune One Product' has become one of the key solutions contributing to the development of the rural economy, unleashing the potential and advantages of each locality, while increasing the added value of agricultural products and regional specialties".
After more than 7 years of implementation, the OCOP program has created an important shift in rural economic development, contributing to increasing the value of agricultural products, restoring and developing many typical products of regions across the country. By July 2025, the country had 17,068 OCOP products with 3 stars or more. Of these, 126 products were recognized as 5-star OCOP. Many products are regional specialties, agricultural products, processed foods, beverages, handicrafts, medicinal herbs, natural cosmetics, etc.
