The Thai Nguyen Province Ethnic Arts Troupe, under the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, was established on the basis of reorganizing the Bac Kan Province Ethnic Arts Troupe and taking over the functions and tasks in the field of performing arts of the Thai Nguyen Province Cultural and Arts Center. Turning a new page, the troupe's artists and actors are confident in continuing the tradition of performing arts in the revolutionary land.

Proud tradition

It can be said that the Thai Nguyen Province Ethnic Arts Group is one of the units that had the earliest activities after the merger, to carry out the art program "Thai Nguyen - Faith and Aspiration", to celebrate the merger of Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan provinces on the evening of June 30, 2025. The program aroused pride in the country, homeland, and emotions in the audience before the historic moment...

In fact, performing arts in Thai Nguyen during the years of resistance against France and the US contributed to inspiring, fostering patriotism and maintaining fighting spirit.

Art troupes and Cheo troupes were established to serve the soldiers, frontline workers and people in the resistance base areas. Cheo plays, skits and revolutionary songs resounding in the ATK mountains and forests became symbols of the nation's indomitable fighting spirit.

Since the country’s reunification in 1975, performing arts in Thai Nguyen have entered a professional period. Art troupes have been systematically organized, bringing together many artists trained at major art schools in the country.

The success of the Bac Thai Provincial Art Troupe is that hundreds of plays, operas, thousands of songs, dances, and music performances have been staged and performed for the people. The plays, song and dance programs have participated in national art festivals, winning many Gold and Silver medals.

Also on Thai Nguyen land, traditional Cheo is preserved and developed, becoming one of the unique art forms of the midland region.

Entering the period of innovation and integration, Thai Nguyen performing arts not only preserves tradition but also rapidly expands to new forms, such as: Modern musical theater, combining folk and contemporary; adapted cheo, bringing the breath of modern life into traditional materials; comprehensive music and dance, serving major events, cultural festivals, international exchanges... all very successfully.

That tradition has contributed to fostering passion and inspiring Thai Nguyen artists to continue on the path of artistic development.

Preserving the essence, inspiring creativity

In the joyful atmosphere of August days, cadres and actors of the Thai Nguyen Province Ethnic Arts Troupe, with new inspiration, actively participated in practicing and performing art programs to serve political tasks and the people.

Despite being busy with practice schedules, the artists and actors in the troupe are all very happy and proud to contribute to arousing and joining the new spirit of the entire Party and people in the cause of building and developing the country.

Singer Lam Nhat Tuyen said: Previously, I belonged to the professional department of the Provincial Cultural and Arts Center. Now, returning to work in the art troupe, I and many of my colleagues are excited to practice and happy to contribute.

After the merger, many artists temporarily left their children and families, overcame immediate difficulties to practice and perform with a passion for their profession and dedication to art.

Dancer Nong Thi Lan left the practice floor with a big smile. She said: Currently, many actors in the troupe from Bac Kan have to be away from their families to do artistic activities, but we all determined that no matter how difficult it is, we will try our best and put our mission first.

The drops of sweat on the artists' practice floor speak for their passion and dedication. They are not only performing artists who preserve the essence but also light the fire of passion and artistic creativity.

Musician Quan Anh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Thai Nguyen Province Ethnic Arts Group, shared: We are very happy to be on the same artistic boat after the merger, becoming an art unit with a tendency to develop in the long term and stronger. When the quintessence of art converges, brothers and sisters learn from each other to improve their level. Elements and art forms with national cultural identity, such as Then, Tinh lute, Tac Xinh dance, Sli singing, Luon, Cheo and modern music will blend on the professional stage to serve political tasks and contribute to improving the spiritual life of the ethnic people in the province. At the same time, promoting the culture and art of the province to go further, maintaining the position of the leading art unit of the Viet Bac region in the new era.

After nearly two months of operation, the Thai Nguyen Province Ethnic Arts Troupe has been developing a plan to organize practice and performances to serve political tasks, serving the people in remote and extremely disadvantaged communes in the province.

In the context of digital transformation and integration, Thai Nguyen performing arts is facing new opportunities and challenges. Tradition is the halo, the fire that urges Thai Nguyen artists to continue writing a new chapter in their development journey. We believe that the stage lights in the new era will always carry the breath of life, accompany life and artists will always flourish in artistic creation...
