Vingroup invests in 'largest ever' resort urban area project in Can Tho

Vingroup Corporation presented the idea of ​​investing in a resort urban area project of nearly 3,000 hectares in Can Tho city.

On August 20, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Tran Van Lau chaired a working session with Vingroup Corporation to listen to a report on the Mekong resort urban area project.

According to the presentation of the representative of Vingroup Corporation, this project has a scale of nearly 3,000 hectares in the two districts of Chau Thanh and Chau Thanh A of the former Hau Giang province (now Chau Thanh commune, Can Tho city), expected to affect about 6,200 households, with a total investment of about 6.2 billion USD.

According to the original idea, the project will have a water park (simulating the characteristics of the Western river) and other functional areas such as a park specializing in thrills, a culinary walking street, a 36-hole golf course as the "heart" of the project, a nursing home - retirement center, a garden house combined with an orchard...

Previously, Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee had a plan to research and implement the project, with the legal implementation period for the project from August 2024 to August 2027.

Due to the merger of three localities Can Tho, Hau Giang and Soc Trang, the new Can Tho city needs to consider and review new regulations. Investors hope that the locality will quickly complete procedures to participate in the project in accordance with regulations.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Tran Van Lau said Vingroup is the leading corporation in Vietnam. Choosing Can Tho City to invest, the city's leaders are very happy because a large corporation wants to invest.

Mr. Lau said that this project is large in scale, up to now in the city there has not been any project with an area of ​​nearly 3,000 hectares, so the city leaders have directed strongly to soon implement this project, to serve the socio-economic development of the city as well as serve the people.

Mr. Lau said that during the time when the new Can Tho City master plan has not been adjusted, the three master plans of Can Tho City and Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces (old) will still be implemented, and the project is completely consistent with the previous master plan of Hau Giang province.

Mr. Lau requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to soon study land use indicators and site clearance work because the number of people affected by the project is very large. If the propaganda work and preparation of resettlement areas are not done well, it will affect the site clearance work, the people and the progress of the project.

"The spirit is that this project must be accelerated but must ensure compliance with the provisions of the Law on Bidding, the Law on Investment, and the Law on Urban and Rural Planning.

Although we want the project to be implemented soon, we cannot ignore the legal regulations. We can shorten the time by working day and night, but we absolutely cannot violate the legal regulations," said Mr. Lau.
