Time of drawing lots for the qualifying round

The draw for the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League qualifying round will take place on August 28. This will be the second season of UEFA's 36-team format.

The 36 teams will be divided into four pots based on their UEFA coefficient rankings, with the reigning Champions League champions PSG placed in Pot 1.

From group 1, each team will be drawn and paired with 8 other opponents using a specialized software system, to ensure the balance and fairness of the tournament. This will lead to the possibility of many "big battles."

Each club will have 8 matches in the qualifying round, including 4 home matches and 4 away matches. Notably, the familiar rules still apply: Teams cannot face opponents from the same country and cannot face more than 2 clubs from the same footballing background.

The draw will continue until the fixtures for all 36 clubs are finalised. After eight rounds of matches, the eight best-performing clubs will automatically qualify for the round of 16. The teams ranked 9th to 24th will enter a two-legged play-off round to compete for the remaining eight spots.

UEFA is expected to announce specific dates and times for each match no later than August 30.

The qualifying round is scheduled to take place from September 16, 2025 to January 28, 2026. The knockout stages to the semi-finals will be held from January 17, 2026 to May 6, 2026. The final will take place on May 30, 2026 at Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary.
