Building a comprehensive learning society to meet development requirements in the new period

This is a meaningful activity to continue affirming the determination of the whole society in implementing the Party's educational policy, promoting President Ho Chi Minh's ideology of "study, study more, study forever"; building a comprehensive learning society, meeting development requirements in the new period.

October 2nd was chosen by the Prime Minister as Vietnam Education Promotion Day since 2008, with the desire to arouse the spirit of learning, encourage all people to participate in the movement of promoting learning and talent. In Can Tho, this activity has become an annual political and social event, connecting the efforts of the education sector, the government and social organizations to improve people's knowledge, train human resources and nurture talents for the city.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, praised the achievements of the Education and Training sector, the Association for Promotion of Learning at all levels, and socio-political organizations that have joined hands to effectively implement the movements to promote learning and talent in the past time. At the same time, the city leaders called on all classes of people, agencies, units, and businesses to continue to accompany the cause of building a learning society, considering lifelong learning as an essential need of every citizen in the knowledge era.

Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi emphasized that the launching ceremony of the lifelong learning movement in 2025 in Can Tho is not only a highlight of the Vietnam Education Promotion Day but also a testament to the widespread spread of the movement to promote learning and talent. With the determination of the entire political system and the consensus of the people, the city is firmly on the path of building a learning society, aiming to improve the quality of human resources, meeting the requirements of sustainable development in the integration period.

According to the Department of Education and Training, in the 2024-2025 school year, the sector has achieved many important achievements. The work of universalizing education and eliminating illiteracy continues to be maintained and improved in quality. Notably, Can Tho has been recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training as having met the standards of universalizing preschool education for 5-year-old children; universalizing primary education level 3; universalizing lower secondary education level 2 and meeting the standards of eliminating illiteracy level 2. This is a result demonstrating the efforts of all levels, sectors and the whole society in caring for the cause of educating people.

The whole city currently has 1,003/1,219 schools meeting standards, accounting for 82.28%. Of which, 302/386 preschool schools meet standards (78.23%), 439/489 primary schools meet standards (89.78%), 202/241 secondary schools meet standards (83.82%), and 69/103 high schools meet standards (67%). These figures show the city's synchronous and sustainable investment in improving the quality of education at all levels.

Along with that, the movement to encourage learning and talent in Can Tho has developed strongly. Chairman of the Association for Promoting Learning Nguyen Thanh Xuan said that the whole city currently has more than 6,060 Associations for Promoting Learning with 1,180,520 members participating. The movement of "learning families, learning clans, learning communities, learning units" has spread widely. Specifically, there have been 544,185 families, 3,459 clans, 1,775 communities and 1,960 units achieving learning titles; especially there are 600,754 learning citizens - important nuclei of a learning society.

The City Association for Promotion of Education focuses on supporting and encouraging students to overcome difficulties. Since the beginning of 2025, 40,087 scholarships, awards, and gifts have been awarded to poor but studious students with a total value of more than 70 billion VND. This is not only a practical source of encouragement but also demonstrates the sense of responsibility and solidarity of the whole society for the future of the young generation.
