Consider upgrading and renovating the Cau Giat - Nghia Dan railway line

Voters of Thai Hoa town - Nghe An province petitioned the Ministry of Transport to move the railway station out of the town center because the Cau Giat - Nghia Dan railway line has stopped operating for 15 years, causing environmental pollution and wasting land.

The Ministry of Transport has just sent an official dispatch to the National Assembly Delegation of Nghe An province to respond to the petition of voters of Thai Hoa town about moving the railway station out of the town center.

According to the Ministry of Transport , from 2012 to now, with the development of road transport, railway infrastructure has not been invested in proportionately, the amount of goods and passengers by rail has decreased sharply, the Cau Giat - Nghia Dan railway line has had to temporarily stop running trains.

Every year, the Ministry of Transport only allocates funds for supervision and maintenance (inspection, protection of infrastructure, protection of works on the route, protection against encroachment of railway traffic safety corridors). According to calculations, this railway line will still be maintained to meet future transportation needs.

In Decision No. 1769/QD-TTg dated October 19, 2021 of the Prime Minister approving the railway network planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, the Cau Giat - Nghia Dan railway line will continue to be maintained and operated.

Therefore, in the coming time, the Ministry of Transport will direct the Vietnam Railway Authority, Vietnam Railway Corporation and relevant agencies to review, research and evaluate the demand for passenger and cargo transport by rail to consider and decide on upgrading and renovating the Cau Giat - Nghia Dan railway line to restore train operations.

“Based on voters' recommendations, the Ministry of Transport will direct the Vietnam Railway Authority and Vietnam Railway Corporation to strengthen the implementation of clearing trees and grass, dredging ditches, and cleaning up to avoid affecting environmental sanitation in the area,” the leader of the Ministry of Transport informed.

The Cau Giat - Nghia Dan railway line has a total length of about 30 km and was built in 1966. It officially stopped transporting passengers in 2006 and freight trains in 2012. Currently, the management of assets and maintenance of this railway line is still undertaken by Vietnam Railways Corporation.
