A series of videos on YouTube were "distorted" for unknown reasons, causing a strong wave of protests from both viewers and content creators.
Many opinions say that artificial intelligence (AI) technology has intervened, making the image fake and losing its authenticity.
The affected videos were described as having an oil painting-like effect. YouTuber Rhett Shull expressed frustration that his short video looked "weird" and like a deepfake.
Similarly, TheMrBravoShow, another YouTuber, also complained that YouTube's system has lost the essence of the original video.
The person said he intentionally shot the video with an 80s film camera to create a nostalgic effect, but recent experiments from YouTube have made their videos look completely different from their original intention.
It is worth noting that YouTube made these changes without the consent of any of the creators. Short videos were said to have been automatically changed and there was no option to turn this feature off, causing great frustration and anger in the community.
In the face of backlash, a YouTube representative confirmed that this was an experiment. The person said that YouTube used "machine learning" to sharpen, denoise and improve the clarity of the video, while emphasizing that this "is not AI".
However, this explanation continues to receive mixed opinions. Many people believe that the distinction between "AI" and "machine learning" is just a euphemism.
In essence, the platform used algorithms to automatically alter original content, directly affecting creators' products without permission.
