2.5 points in 3 subjects still passed grade 10 of public school, why?

(Dan Tri) - According to the second round of enrollment announcement of Nam Dan 2 High School (Nghe An province), the admission score for grade 10 is 2.5 points. Thus, candidates with less than 1 point in each subject will be admitted to public schools.

Nam Dan 2 High School has just announced the admission scores and the second admission time for grade 10 for the 2025-2026 school year.

The standard score for the second round of admission is 2.5 points (including priority and incentive points, if any). The admission target is students with a total admission score of 2.5 points or higher, who have submitted their first application to the school but have not been admitted in the first round.

The fact that a local public school is considered a "land of learning" but the admission standard score is 2.5 points, meaning less than 1 point per subject, makes many people wonder.

Mr. Pham Xuan Phu, Principal of Nam Dan 2 High School, confirmed that the school's second round admission standard score is 2.5 points. Meanwhile, the school's first round admission standard score is 9.5 points.

The sharp decrease in benchmark scores, according to Mr. Phu, is "due to specific circumstances".

In the 2025-2026 school year, the Nghe An Department of Education and Training assigned the school an enrollment target of 450 students for 10 grade 10 classes. However, there were only 419 applications for the school entrance exam, so the enrollment target was adjusted to 400.

In the 2025-2026 school year entrance exam of Nam Dan 2 High School, there was a student who scored 27.75 points.

After the 10th grade entrance exam, some candidates changed their wishes, resulting in 442 applications, so Nam Dan 2 High School continued to adjust the enrollment quota to 450.

“Because there is still a shortage compared to the enrollment quota, the school announced the second round of enrollment. According to the enrollment regulations, candidates who do not violate the exam regulations and do not have a failing score will have their scores taken from top to bottom, and any candidate who is accepted will be taken until the quota is met,” Mr. Phu informed.

With the second round of benchmark scores, 31 candidates are eligible for admission.

Nam Dan 2 High School is also the scene of a scandal related to the invigilator's statement during the first exam session, the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year. When the candidate asked for more exam papers, male invigilator TVD said: "Why study so much, you'll just have to work for hire, a worker." Teacher D. later explained that he was joking with the invigilator in the same exam room, not intending to insult the candidate.

In response to concerns about the quality of education when the entrance scores are low, Mr. Phu said that the low scores may not be entirely due to the students’ abilities, but in some cases, they may be due to external factors such as health problems during the exam. However, the principal also said that “if the child is weak, the parents must take better care of him/her.”

In the 2024-2025 school year, the 10th grade benchmark score of Nam Dan 2 High School is 13.2 points, with 500 candidates passing the school out of a total of 720 application files.

Statistics show that the admission benchmark score for grade 10 in Nghe An for the 2025-2026 school year has decreased compared to last year.

For example, Ha Huy Tap High School's benchmark score for the first round was 17.75 points, and for the second round it was 17.5 points, while the benchmark score for the 2024-2025 school year was 21 points. Le Viet Thuat High School's benchmark score was 15.25 points, 6.4 points lower than the previous school year (21.65 points for the first round). These are two schools located in favorable locations (old Vinh city).

For schools in rural areas such as Thai Lao High School, the benchmark score is 11.75 points, 7 points lower than the previous school year. Le Hong Phong High School is 10 points, 6.5 points lower than the 2024-2025 school year.

The benchmark score of Nghi Loc 3 High School is 11.25 points, while the benchmark score (phase 1) for the 2024-2025 school year is 17.75 points and the benchmark score of phase 5 is 16.6 points...
