647 prisoners had their prison sentences reduced

This morning, January 25, at Nghia An Prison, Cam Chinh Commune, Cam Lo District, Quang Tri Province, the Provincial Council for Review of Reduction of Prison Sentence Term (Reduction Council) held a meeting to review the reduction of prison sentence term during the Lunar New Year 2025.

Accordingly, this time the Council reviewed, analyzed, and specifically assessed each prisoner's case. The prisoners proposed for reduction have all served from 1/3 to 2/3 of the sentence imposed, have complied with the prison's regulations during the rehabilitation process, have paid court fees, paid confiscation fees in full, have fully compensated and partially compensated for civil obligations...

At the meeting, with a spirit of serious work, responsibility, and respect for the law, the Review Council decided to reduce the prison term for 647 prisoners. Of these, 644 prisoners are serving their sentences at Nghia An Prison and 3 prisoners are at the Provincial Police Detention Center. For prisoners considered for reduction of their prison term at Nghia An Prison, 5 cases had completed their sentences before the meeting date; 163 prisoners had their entire prison term reduced; 476 prisoners were reduced from 1 to 21 months.

Immediately after the meeting, the Review Council announced the decision to reduce the prison term for the Lunar New Year 2025 for 644 prisoners at Nghia An Prison. Considering reducing the prison term and releasing prisoners who have performed well is a humane policy of the Party and State to create conditions for offenders to reintegrate into the community and live a useful life for their families and society.
