The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has just issued urgent instructions to all educational institutions in the area on proactively responding to storms and floods.
According to the Department of Education and Training, currently in the rainy and stormy season, many strong storms are developing complicatedly and are likely to affect the Ho Chi Minh City area. Heavy rains caused by storms pose a very high risk of flash floods, landslides and widespread flooding, especially in areas with steep terrain and weak soil.
To proactively respond, minimize damage and ensure safety for people and property at educational institutions in the area, the Department of Education and Training requests heads of institutions to implement the following contents:
Closely monitor the development of storms and rains, maintain regular contact with authorities and local rescue forces to promptly respond in case of incidents.
Schools in Ho Chi Minh City are preparing online learning plans and plans to temporarily postpone school schedules during complicated stormy days (if any).
Urgently develop a plan to repair and reinforce structures at risk of being unsafe; coordinate with specialized units to trim the green tree system inside the school, check the sewer system, and the power grid to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and administrators before storms and floods occur.
Prepare plans to evacuate students and teachers to safe places; move documents and equipment to safe locations before storms and floods.
Actively coordinate with local authorities to receive support in terms of expertise, materials, and equipment when situations arise.
Prepare online learning plans and plans to postpone classes during complicated stormy days (if any). At the same time, promptly repair damages, clean up and sanitize schools and classrooms immediately after storms to ensure safety, cleanliness and disease prevention at the unit.
The Department of Education and Training also requested units to proactively coordinate with the local Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue to organize propaganda and training for teachers and students on disaster response skills, first aid and safety in emergency situations. Directing subject groups at relevant units to organize specialized and extracurricular activities for students on natural disaster prevention.
