On January 31, Quang Nam Central General Hospital said that the unit received patients who were fishermen in Tam Hai commune (Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam province) who were poisoned by eating puffer fish caught at sea.
Previously, at noon on January 28, after catching 3 puffer fish and eating them, about 30 minutes later, 4 fishermen showed signs of headaches and vomiting. However, it was not until 5:00 p.m. that the victims were taken to the emergency room by their relatives.
Four fishermen, including LVV (50 years old), NVC (55 years old), BVB (35 years old), D.DN (41 years old, all residing in Tam Hai commune, Nui Thanh district) were taken to Quang Nam Central General Hospital. Of these, three patients V., C. and B. were in a state of headache, vomiting, slow contact, and tongue numbness; patient N. only had a mild headache.
By the afternoon of January 29, Mr. N. was discharged from the hospital, and the remaining three were being treated at the Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department. After the critical stage, the health of the three patients gradually stabilized.
According to doctors, puffer fish is a dangerous fish, people should not use it as food to prepare dishes. Because this fish contains the toxin tetrodotoxin, when eaten, the patient will have symptoms of numbness of the tongue, fatigue, panic, weakness of the limbs, low blood pressure, loss of consciousness, weakness of the limbs and the possibility of respiratory failure leading to death.
