Decision to arrest Nguyen Quoc Thinh
Initial investigation results determined: After many days of closing to visit his family, on the afternoon of January 31, 2025, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Thanh Duoc (born in 1985) returned to the store on Lam Quang Ky Street, Vinh Lac Ward, Rach Gia City, Kien Giang Province (now Rach Gia Ward, An Giang Province) and discovered that the store had signs of being broken into.
Upon inspection, he discovered that 17kg of various dried squid (worth over 15 million VND) was missing, so he reported it to the police. Through investigation, the police quickly identified and invited Nguyen Quoc Thinh to the headquarters for questioning.
Initially, Thinh confessed that when he discovered that Mr. Duoc's store was locked and there was no one guarding it, he had the intention of breaking in and stealing property. At noon on January 31, 2025, Thinh brought a hacksaw to Mr. Duoc's store to cut the iron frame, then broke into the store to steal the above amount of ink and gave it to a friend (identity unknown) to sell and share the money.
On March 31, 2025, the Investigation Police Agency, Kien Giang Provincial Police (now An Giang Provincial Police) issued a decision to prosecute the accused, a ban on leaving the place of residence and a decision to temporarily suspend exit from the country for the accused Nguyen Quoc Thinh. However, Thinh fled the locality.
