Apple said on June 21 that it would delay the rollout of its recently announced artificial intelligence (AI) features in Europe due to European Union (EU) technology regulations that require it to ensure that rival products and services can work on its devices.

Earlier this month, Apple launched “Apple Intelligence” – a suite of AI features for its devices – to assert that it is not falling behind in the AI ​​craze and boost its sagging sales.

Apple said Apple Intelligence, which uses AI to generate text, images, and other content on command, will be available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPads, and Macs with M1 chips and later. iPhone Mirroring on macOS Sequoia lets you view and interact with your phone's screen on your Mac.

However, in a statement citing the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA), a spokesperson for the iPhone maker said it was unlikely the "bitten apple" would be able to roll out the suite of features to EU users this year. Apple pledged to work with the European Commission to find a solution that would allow it to offer these features to EU customers without compromising user safety.

Earlier, on June 18, Ms. Margrethe Vestager - head of the EU antitrust agency, warned that Apple was not complying with the DMA when the bloc launched an investigation into the company's business activities. The above comment was made after the Financial Times reported that Apple was about to face charges related to the investigation.

The DMA allows the European Commission to investigate, impose fines and structural remedies on companies that do not comply with the law. Fines can be up to 10% of annual global turnover, with repeat offenders facing fines of up to 20%.
