1. What is a professional soldier?

Professional soldiers are Vietnamese citizens with technical and professional qualifications serving in the People's Army, selected and recruited according to their titles and awarded the rank of professional soldier.

2. What is the highest rank of a professional soldier?

According to Article 16 of the Law on Professional Soldiers, National Defense Workers and Civil Servants 2015, the military ranks of professional soldiers are as follows:

- The military ranks of professional soldiers are determined in accordance with their technical and professional qualifications and salary levels, including:

+ Professional military lieutenant colonel;

+ Professional military major;

+ Professional military captain;

+ Professional military lieutenant;

+ Professional military lieutenant;

+ Professional military lieutenant.

- The highest military ranks of professional soldiers include:

+ Intermediate level is professional military lieutenant colonel;

+ Primary type is professional military Major.

3. What is the salary of a professional military rank?

Article 4 of Circular 170/2016/TT-BQP stipulates the professional military ranks corresponding to the salary levels as follows:

- The military rank of Second Lieutenant of professional soldiers corresponds to a salary with a coefficient below 3.95.

- The military rank of Lieutenant of professional soldiers corresponds to a salary coefficient from 3.95 to under 4.45.

- The military rank of Senior Lieutenant of professional military personnel corresponds to a salary coefficient from 4.45 to under 4.90.

- The military rank of Captain of professional military personnel corresponds to a salary coefficient from 4.90 to under 5.30.

- The military rank of Major in professional military corresponds to a salary coefficient from 5.30 to under 6.10.

- The military rank of Lieutenant Colonel in professional military corresponds to a salary coefficient from 6.10 to under 6.80.

- The military rank of Lieutenant Colonel in professional military corresponds to a salary coefficient of 6.80 or higher.

Accordingly, based on Article 3 of Circular 10/2023/TT-BNV, the salary is calculated as follows:

Salary = Basic salary 1,800,000 VND/month x current salary coefficient

- The highest salary that a professional soldier with the rank of Second Lieutenant can receive is: 7,110,000 VND/month

- The highest salary a professional soldier with the rank of Lieutenant can receive is: 8,010,000 VND/month

- The highest salary a professional soldier with the rank of Senior Lieutenant can receive is: 8,820,000 VND/month

- The highest salary a professional soldier with the rank of Captain can receive is: 9,540,000 VND/month

- The highest salary a professional military Major can receive is: 10,980,000 VND/month

- The highest salary a professional soldier with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel can receive is: 12,240,000 VND/month

- Professional military personnel with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel can receive a salary of 12,240,000 VND/month or more.
