Arrested impersonator of traffic police to 'protect' traffic violators

On January 10, the Investigation Police Agency of Thong Nhat District Police ( Dong Nai ) is temporarily detaining Pham Dinh Dan (36 years old, residing in Gia Tan 2 Commune, Thong Nhat District) to investigate the act of impersonating a traffic police officer and defrauding to appropriate property.

According to the initial investigation, Dan was previously a car repairman in front of the headquarters of Traffic Control Patrol Team No. 2 (in charge of National Highway 20, under the Traffic Police Department of Dong Nai Province).

Recently, Dan went into residential areas in Thong Nhat district to look for truck, tractor, and three-wheeled vehicle drivers, then claimed to be a traffic police officer, who could help these drivers avoid traffic violations, to defraud and appropriate property.

On January 5, at a coffee shop in Gia Kiem commune (Thong Nhat district), Dan was receiving 2 million VND from Mr. THN (residing in Gia Tan 2 commune - a tractor driver in the area) when he was caught red-handed by Thong Nhat district police.

Initially, Dan confessed to the police that he had defrauded more than 20 people, appropriating a total of nearly 100 million VND. The case is being further investigated and clarified by Thong Nhat District Police.
