On the afternoon of March 18, Thai media published a letter from Mr. Somyot Poompanmoung with content aimed directly at Ms. Nualphan Lamsam - current president of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT).
" As the current FAT executive, Madam Pang and her team should have a clear understanding of the regulations governing the Football Association of Thailand. However, they held press conferences and gave interviews in a way that distorted the truth, provided incomplete and dishonest information, " General Somyot Poompanmoung, former FAT president, said harshly.
Mr. Somyot Poompanmoung criticized Madam Pang.
Previously, controversy broke out when FAT lost the court case related to the Thai League television copyright dispute. Siam Sport has a long-term contract until 2025 with FAT. They receive 95% of the profits from exploiting the image copyright of Thai League, but must bear all the risks if the business fails.
In 2016, Mr. Somyot Poompanmoung became the president of FAT and thought that the contract with Siam Sport was unfair because FAT only received 5% of the profits. Then, Mr. Somyot decided to cancel this contract. Siam Sport sued FAT. Finally, the Supreme Court determined that FAT breached the contract and had to compensate Siam Sport with 360 million Baht (equivalent to 272 billion VND).
Immediately afterwards, Ms. Pang, as FAT president, held a press conference accusing Mr. Somyot of being the one who must take full responsibility for causing unimaginable damage to Thai football.
" In early March 2025, Ms. Nualphan Lamsam, as President of FAT, held a press conference, accusing me of causing damage to Thai football. This action caused the public to despise and hate me. These accusations are completely false and seriously damaged my reputation.
If Ms. Pang believes that my actions violate the law or regulations of FAT and Thai League Management Company, I request that she file a complaint, as an authorized representative of FAT and Thai League. Please bring this case to court so that I have a chance to prove the truth," Mr. Somyot wrote in the letter.
