On the morning of August 21, Bui Hoang Viet Anh posted a status on social media and said that he was fine, after having just received 14 stitches in his head. He will continue to monitor himself when he and the Hanoi Police Club return home to prepare for the second round of the V-League this weekend.
In the match between Hanoi Police Club and BG Pathum United on the evening of August 20 in the first round of Group A of the ASEAN Club Championship, Viet Anh was injured in the 42nd minute after being kicked straight in the face by striker Matheus Fornazari while competing for the ball in the air.
Matheus was immediately given a red card for his brutal behavior. Viet Anh was bandaged and allowed to play the rest of the first half, but had to leave the field to be treated at the hospital. At that time, Hanoi Police Club temporarily led BG Pathum 1-0.
Without Viet Anh, Hanoi Police Club could not maintain their results and let their opponents score 2 goals, thereby winning 2-1.
On August 24, Hanoi Police Club will play away against Becamex TP.HCM in round 2 of V-League 2025 - 2026. With this injury, Viet Anh is likely not to participate.
This is not the first time Viet Anh has suffered a facial injury. Previously in the V-League, Viet Anh had suffered many facial and lip lacerations due to his aggressive playing style, requiring many stitches and forced to retire from competition.
