Specifically, this proposal applies to cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers of administrative agencies, public service agencies, political organizations, and socio-political organizations. According to the proposed plan, the Tet holiday will start from Saturday, February 14, 2026 (ie December 27, At Ty year) to Sunday, February 22, 2026 (ie January 6, Binh Ngo year).

The total number of days off is 9 consecutive days, including 5 Tet holidays as prescribed by the Labor Code and 4 weekly days off. Of which, the 5 official days off include 1 day at the end of the year of At Ty and 4 days at the beginning of the year of Binh Ngo. Since no day off falls on a weekend day, employees will not have a compensatory day off.

The Ministry of Home Affairs ' proposal for a 9-day Lunar New Year holiday in 2026 has been agreed upon by relevant ministries and branches.

For employees in the business sector, the Ministry of Home Affairs encourages businesses to apply the same holiday plan as civil servants. However, employers can proactively arrange a holiday schedule suitable to the actual conditions of their units. The Ministry of Home Affairs also offers three suggested plans for businesses to choose from: 1 day off at the end of the year of At Ty and 4 days at the beginning of the year of Binh Ngo; 2 days off at the end of the year of At Ty and 3 days at the beginning of the year of Binh Ngo; 3 days off at the end of the year of At Ty and 2 days at the beginning of the year of Binh Ngo.

Regardless of the option chosen, the enterprise must notify the employee at least 30 days in advance. The Ministry of Home Affairs also emphasizes the encouragement of agreements that are more favorable to the employee. At the same time, if the weekly day off coincides with a public holiday or Tet holiday, the employee will be arranged to take compensatory leave on the next working day according to the provisions of Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code.

To have a basis to submit to the Prime Minister , the Ministry of Home Affairs has drafted a draft and sought opinions from 13 relevant ministries and agencies. Notably, 100% of the agencies consulted agreed with the 9-day holiday plan proposed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
