What did the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism say about the case of Meritorious Artist Do Ky failing to receive the title of People's Artist?

Regarding the fact that Meritorious Artist Do Ky was not considered for the title of People's Artist due to a petition, a representative of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) said that on February 28, 2023, the State Council had submitted Document No. 23/TTr-HDNS10 on the proposal to consider awarding the title of People's Artist for the 10th time to the Prime Minister (through the Central Emulation and Rewards Committee), including the dossier requesting the title of People's Artist of Meritorious Artist Pham Do Ky.

However, later, on November 1, the Central Emulation and Rewards Committee issued Notice No. 3211/TB-BTĐKT to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the standing body of the State-level Council, announcing the results of the appraisal of the dossier for the 10th People's Artist title. In which, the Prime Minister temporarily left the dossier for the People's Artist title of Meritorious Artist Pham Do Ky because the individual submitted a petition and did not meet the conditions for the People's Artist title.

Pursuant to the Notice of the Central Emulation and Commendation Committee, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has sent an official dispatch to the Department of Performing Arts to notify the dossier of Meritorious Artist Pham Do Ky in accordance with the content of the Central Emulation and Commendation Committee's announcement of the dossier appraisal results.

Notifying the results and explaining to Meritorious Artist Do Ky when the file is left behind is the authority and responsibility of the Department of Performing Arts.

Speaking further about the handling of the petition related to the profile of Meritorious Artist Pham Do Ky, a representative of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that the verification of the petition information was carried out in accordance with regulations.

The Councils at all levels are very careful when reviewing each individual's profile. Anyone who has a petition will form a Council to specifically evaluate and verify it. Any artist who has a petition, about any issues, will be specifically reported to the Council and carefully reviewed. Before submitting it to the Central Emulation and Rewards Committee, the Councils at all levels have completely resolved the petition related to Meritorious Artist Do Ky and found that the profile is qualified to be proposed for the title of People's Artist.

Previously, as reported by the Lao Dong Newspaper, on the morning of November 22, Meritorious Artist Do Ky confided that he was very sad after nearly 2 years of holding his pension book, he suddenly received a notice from the Department of Performing Arts dated November 21 stating that the Central Emulation and Commendation Committee submitted to the Prime Minister to temporarily keep his file for considering awarding the title of People's Artist due to a petition and opinion from the Ministry of Public Security ; he did not meet the conditions and standards to be considered for awarding the title of People's Artist for the 10th time.

He also said that he currently wants to know and answer all the contents of the petition to clarify the information, so as not to affect his reputation and honor.

"I do not agree with the document sent to me. If the petition is not true about me, will the petitioner be guilty of slander? Or if you do not like someone, you can just send the petition everywhere. Now my main concern is where to complain, to whom? Which agency will be the one to make the decision?" - artist Do Ky expressed.

Meritorious Artist Do Ky, whose birth name is Pham Do Ky, was born in 1961 in Hanoi. He is a Vietnamese director and stage actor. He graduated from the Actor Training Class I of the Vietnam Drama Theater.

He once held the position of Deputy Director of the Vietnam Drama Theater and was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist by the State in 2011.
