Mrs. Nguyen Thi My (60 years old, in Hoa Thuong village, Quang Phu ward) has two brothers who were martyrs who died in the resistance war against the US. The only keepsake is a black and white ID photo of martyr Nguyen Luu that the revolution sent to his family after the liberation day. Mrs. My put this photo on the altar, and burned incense every day, remembering her brother who died for the country's peace ... After more than 50 years, the photo gradually faded, making Mrs. My worried.

During a time of mass mobilization work in the area, officers and soldiers of Tam Thanh Border Guard Station expressed their desire to restore this portrait, to preserve the relic for the family. With the family's consent, the portrait was taken by Tam Thanh Border Guard Station and sent to a professional photo restoration unit for processing. The restored and framed photo is a color photo of the martyr in military uniform.

The day Tam Thanh Border Guard Station came to return the portrait, Mrs. My could not help but be moved. Holding the portrait tightly, her eyes never leaving it, Mrs. My confided: “It is beautiful and exactly like the face when my brother (martyr Nguyen Luu - PV) said goodbye to his family and left to join the revolution. I don’t know how to thank the border guards for all the affection they have for the martyr and his family.”

Mrs. My's house is currently being repaired, with the help of border guards. Mrs. My said she will rebuild the altar to be more solemn and place the martyr's portraits to burn incense. She hopes that when her children and grandchildren see the portraits, they will be proud of their heroic uncle and grandfather; thereby continuing to follow their example, learning to contribute to building their homeland to be more prosperous and beautiful.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Minh Vuong, Political Commissar of Tam Thanh Border Guard Station, said that the wards of Quang Phu, Tam Xuan, and Tam Anh, the areas under the unit's responsibility, have more than 1,000 relatives of martyrs. After coordinating with local authorities to conduct a survey, the unit counted 500 souvenir photos still kept by martyrs' relatives, many of which were blurred or torn.

Recently, Tam Thanh Border Guard Station has restored about 50 portraits and given them to the martyrs' families to worship at home. The funds were contributed by officers and soldiers and mobilized from philanthropists in the city.

Currently, we are continuing to carry out tasks to support the martyrs' relatives to restore their photos and relics. This is a practical work to show gratitude to the generations of fathers and brothers who fought bravely, not sparing their blood and bones for the cause of national liberation and unification.
