Plan for resettlement arrangement

On the morning of August 2, 2023, on National Highway 14, through Bac Gia Nghia ward, Lam Dong province (formerly Nghia Thanh ward, Gia Nghia city, Dak Nong province), a landslide occurred on the negative slope with a length of about 300m.

Authorities determined that nearly 1,500 square meters of land belonging to the Technical Infrastructure Project for Residential Area in Nghia Thanh Ward of Dak Lak Road Joint Stock Company had completely collapsed.

This area is adjacent to the road section that has subsided on the negative slope. The deepest point has sunk about 5m compared to the current sidewalk.

Many households returned to their family homes to live because there was no place to build new houses.

Immediately after the landslide, the local government assisted in evacuating 17 households to safety. However, the households later returned to their old residences and have continued to live there to this day.

Recently, on September 17, the Department of Construction chaired and coordinated with departments, branches and the People's Committee of Bac Gia Nghia ward to hold a meeting to consider and resolve recommendations on supporting the relocation of affected households.

At the meeting, the parties agreed to request the People's Committee of Bac Gia Nghia ward to review, complete the report and propose a resettlement plan for 17 households, send it to the Department of Construction for synthesis, and advise the People's Committee of Lam Dong province to consider and resolve according to regulations.

Mr. Truong Van Hiep's family hopes to soon receive support for resettlement land arrangement to stabilize their lives.

Hope to stabilize life soon

Mr. Truong Van Hiep's family was one of 17 households affected by the landslide in 2023. At that time, Mr. Hiep and the remaining households were supported by the local government with 3 million VND/household/month to rent a room for 2 months.

Mr. Hiep said that because they cannot stay for a long time, the households have to return here. The biggest wish of the people is to soon receive resettlement land support to stabilize their lives.

“Recently, when we heard that the authorities at all levels were discussing plans to relocate and support 17 households, we were very excited. All the households hope to soon be allocated land to build new houses,” said Mr. Hiep.

People living in landslide areas

According to the leader of the People's Committee of Bac Gia Nghia ward, the authorities have determined that the main cause of the landslide was prolonged rain combined with weak geological foundation and unstable slope.

Currently, the locality is coordinating with relevant parties to conduct surveys and synthesize to submit to the Provincial People's Committee for opinions on treatment options to help people live in peace.
