Can Tho: Started construction of National Highway 91 expansion with an amount of more than 7,200 billion VND

After many missed deadlines, the project to expand National Highway 91 through Can Tho has begun, contributing to completing the city's traffic infrastructure upon completion.

On September 22, the project to upgrade and expand National Highway 91 (section from Km0 - Km7), Can Tho city was started after many missed deadlines due to land clearance problems.

Mr. Le Minh Cuong - Director of the City Traffic and Agricultural Construction Investment Project Management Board - said the total length of the project is about 7.04km. This is a level I road traffic project (urban road) with a design speed of 60km/h.

After upgrading and expanding, Highway 91 has a 37m wide road surface with 6 lanes, a 4m median strip, and 5m sidewalks on each side. On the road, a new 145m long Binh Thuy bridge has been built along with a rainwater drainage system, technical trenches, trees, and synchronous lighting.

Total investment is 7,238 billion VND, using central and local budgets. Project completion date is 2027.

Along with this project, on the same day, Can Tho city started and inaugurated 17 other projects to celebrate the Congress of Can Tho City Party Committee, term 2025-2030. The total investment of 18 projects is about 12,252 billion VND.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony to upgrade and expand 7km of National Highway 91, Mr. Tran Van Lau - Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee - affirmed that National Highway 91 is a vital traffic route, a strategic gateway of the city, receiving special attention from voters and people.

Therefore, investors, contractors and consultants must promote the highest sense of responsibility, organize construction seriously, mobilize maximum resources, apply modern technology, ensure quality, progress, safety and efficiency.

Mr. Lau said that in parallel with investing in traffic infrastructure projects, Can Tho city also focuses on investing in social infrastructure projects such as schools, hospitals, cultural centers, social housing, etc., to develop the city comprehensively and inclusively.

18 projects started and inaugurated simultaneously

10 projects were inaugurated, including: resettlement area serving Vinh Thanh District Industrial Park phase 1 (VSIP Can Tho Industrial Park), Mai Dam resettlement area, emergency anti-erosion embankment of Cai San canal... and the investment project using non-budgetary capital, the WestFood factory.

The remaining 8 projects that have started construction include the project to upgrade and expand National Highway 91 (section from Km0 - Km7); the project to develop a green urban area adapting to climate change in Nga Bay city, Hau Giang province (old); the project to invest in the construction and replacement of some weak bridges on provincial roads, Soc Trang province (old); the resettlement area of ​​Ward 4, Vi Thanh city (old); the resettlement area of ​​Dong Phu 4; the road from the Y-shaped bridge to Vo Van Kiet street, ward 2, Soc Trang city, Soc Trang province (old); the resettlement area of ​​Cai Tac town, Chau Thanh A district (old); the road and Ba Lang bridge connecting Tan Phu Thanh Industrial Park.

Mr. Tran Van Lau - Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee - emphasized that the works and projects that were started and inaugurated contributed significantly to the city's socio-economic development, practically welcoming the 1st Congress of Can Tho City Party Committee, term 2025 - 2030.
