Attending the meeting were leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, units working on forest protection management in the province and representatives of leaders of a number of relevant departments and branches.

Lam Dong province has a natural area of 2,423,307 hectares; of which, the total planned forestry land area is 1,166,160 hectares (Lam Dong province (old): 537,740 hectares; Binh Thuan (old): 335,440 hectares; Dak Nong (old): 292,980 hectares), accounting for 48.12% of the natural area. The forested land area is 1,132,111 hectares, with a forest cover rate of 46.72%.
Lam Dong province has 4 national parks; 3 special-use forest management boards; 23 protective forest management boards; 17 state forestry companies; in addition, there are other forest owners in the province assigned and leased forests to carry out forest protection management combined with production and business.

In its report on forest resource updates, the Department of Agriculture and Environment said that in Region 1 (former Lam Dong), the province's forest coverage rate reached 54.4%. In Region 2 (former Binh Thuan), the province's forest coverage rate reached 43.11%. In Region 3 (former Dak Nong), the province's forest coverage rate reached 39.58%.

During the meeting, delegates proposed many solutions to strengthen forest protection management. Forest owners focused on the lack of labor for forest protection management but could not recruit due to the low policy mechanism, salary and allowance regime for this force, not commensurate with the task. Units were also quite passive in some plans such as: Payment for forest environmental services; approval of forest fire prevention and fighting plans; forest planting plans... At the same time, it was recommended that these plans should be approved earlier to implement them on time.

In particular, the units also presented a number of ways to organize forest protection management by applying science and technology, such as remote sensing equipment, flycams, etc., which have brought about quite high efficiency in forest protection management in some units and proposed to replicate this model in the province.

Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Trong Yen gave in-depth instructions and requested all levels and sectors to change their thinking and take drastic actions to thoroughly resolve existing problems, especially those pointed out in the conclusions of the authorities.
Comrade Le Trong Yen emphasized: Forest protection is not only about preventing violations but also about creating economic value from forests, improving people's lives, and promoting business development.

On that basis, he requested that forestry officials change their approach to work and have a new mindset. In addition to clearly assigning responsibilities, it is necessary to seize opportunities to promote economic development in the forestry sector. Proactively meet, support, and accompany businesses to both manage well and create conditions to promote private economic development in this sector in accordance with the direction of the Central Government.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Trong Yen requested to develop a coordination regulation between forces, including the police force, to do a good job of forest management and protection, and to investigate, monitor, and handle violations of the Forestry Law.
In this new phase, it is necessary to assign specific responsibilities in the spirit of implementing the 6 clear principles of "Clear people, clear work, clear time, clear responsibility, clear authority and clear results" in accordance with the direction of the Prime Minister.
