50% reduction in investment costs

Visiting the 1.5-hectare coffee garden in Thach Tan village, Tan Ha commune, Lam Ha at the end of August 2025, the 7-year-old coffee trees here are quite uniform in height, leaf diameter and branches crowded with fruit clusters. Farmer Nguyen Nhu Ngoc, a member of Tan Ha Organic Cooperative, said that his coffee garden has gone through 4 harvests, the lowest yield of kernels is 2 - 2.5 tons, the highest is 3 - 3.5 tons. Through connections, from the beginning of 2025 until now, Tan Ha Organic Cooperative has cooperated with BTG Biotechnology Joint Stock Company ( Ho Chi Minh City) to build a model garden of Nguyen Nhu Ngoc household for organic farming to replace conventional inorganic farming.

Calculating after the first 9 months of using BTG organic fertilizer sprayed on leaves and applied directly to the roots of coffee trees, Nguyen Nhu Ngoc's household has reduced the amount of inorganic fertilizer and pesticides by about 50%. Mr. Ngoc excitedly said: "Applying organic processes, the coffee trees have sprouted quite a lot of new buds. On each branch, the fruit set rate is higher than with the conventional method in previous years. Maybe in the 2025 - 2026 crop, our household will harvest about 4.5 - 5 tons of beans/ha".

Also producing with organic processes according to the solution transferred from Tan Ha Organic Cooperative, farmer Pham Van Tuyen in Phuc Tho Lam Ha commune practices on a total area of 7 hectares of specialized durian trees, with a density of 300 trees/ha. The entire amount of organic fertilizers and biological products is exploited and supplied by the Cooperative from a reputable domestic production unit. After more than 2 years of stabilizing the organic farming process, Mr. Tuyen's 4-year-old durian farm has grown to a height of 5-6 m, with a spread diameter of 5-6 m.

At the beginning of 2025, durian flowers bloomed in clusters on the trunk and branches, but Mr. Tuyen cut them off to focus on organic nutrients for the tree to start bearing fruit from August 2026. According to Mr. Tuyen, durian trees are preparing to enter the business period with a balanced dose of organic fertilizer, watering every 10 days, and fertilizing with pellets once a month. Correspondingly, the investment cost of inorganic fertilizers and pesticides is reduced by 50% or more. "Our farm estimates the organic durian crop to be harvested in 2026 to be about 70 kg/tree; the main crop from 2027 onwards can increase to an average of 200 kg/tree," Mr. Tuyen predicted.

Step by step expansion of organic production areas

According to the agricultural engineer of BTG Biotechnology Joint Stock Company Pham Van Cong, before organic farming, each model garden analyzes the soil, water, dissolved minerals, and microorganisms in the soil to develop a technical process suitable for each type of crop. The advantage of organic farming is not only to protect the health of producers, provide safe products for consumers, but also restore the fertility of sustainable cultivated land.

Mr. Chu Van Thang - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tan Ha Organic Cooperative said that after more than 2 years of operation, the Cooperative has attracted nearly 290 farming households to gradually convert to organic production of more than 280 hectares of coffee, fruit trees and many other key crops in the communes of Tan Ha Lam Ha, Phuc Tho Lam Ha, Phu Son Lam Ha. In particular, through cooperation with agricultural enterprises, the Cooperative has transferred organic technical solutions to member farmers to reduce costs and improve productivity and crop quality.

“Our cooperative focuses on supporting farmers in applying science and technology to develop the value chain from production, processing to distribution and consumption, gradually expanding organic production areas associated with certification and traceability, with the first goal being to meet the domestic market, then reaching out to the international market,” Mr. Thang stated the orientation.
