The application was filed in early September 2025, with the applicant being Chanel Sarl. The company intends to produce and sell perfumes in Russia under this brand.
French fashion house Chanel has applied to register three brands: Chanel Bois Des Iles, Chanel Boy and Chanel Comete. The applications were received from Switzerland on September 5, 11 and 19, 2025. All three trademarks are registered under the same class of the International Classification of Goods and Services (ICGS), which includes perfumes and eau de toilette, TASS reported, citing official sources.
Top French and international fashion brands such as Louis Vuitton, Hermès and Chanel have closed their stores in Russia from March 2022 due to the conflict in Ukraine.
Registering these trademarks allows the brand to protect the right to use its name in the Russian market. Chanel continues to strengthen the legal protection of its products in the face of changing international economic conditions.
Previously, foreign companies such as Cond Nast (Vogue, Glamour and Tatler magazines), Mercedes, Zara, Uniqlo, KIA, Hyundai and Louis Vuitton also filed trademark applications in Russia. The move is aimed at maintaining legal protection for brands in the Russian market, but does not mean the companies will return, but allows them to retain the right to use their names if they continue to operate.
