Details of new fines for violations of cars and motorbikes

Decree No. 168/2024/ND-CP dated December 26, 2024 of the Government on administrative sanctions for violations of traffic order and safety in the road sector, effective from January 1, 2025, increases the level of sanctions from several times to several dozen times for many traffic violations compared to current regulations. In particular, acts that pose a risk of causing traffic accidents will be handled more strictly.

Driving in the wrong direction, reversing and turning around on the highway are dangerous violations that pose many risks of accidents. According to the new penalty regulations, these violations will be fined from 30 to 40 million VND, more than double the old level. Especially for the act of running a red light, the driver can be fined up to 20 million VND.

One of the violations with the highest penalty is opening a car door and causing a traffic accident, which will be fined from 20 to 22 million VND, an increase of 36 to 50 times compared to present.

Vehicles transporting goods that are not tied down or tied down incorrectly will also be fined from 18 to 22 million VND.

Traffic police also said that the increase in fines is only to increase deterrence and prevent lawlessness. The force will also promote the application of technology in patrolling and controlling to ensure the right people and violations are handled. At the same time, it will prevent negative behaviors that may arise during the process of handling violations.
