FPT's specialized chips will be developed in Japan in a unique way.

FPT Corporation has shared FPT's plan to develop specialized chips called "Bonsai AI", meaning that each type of artificial intelligence (AI) chip designed and manufactured by FPT is like a bonsai tree that is edited and pruned in a unique way.

Seminar with the theme "State- scientist -enterprise cooperation: Promoting research and development of strategic technology - specialized chips".

On October 2, at the headquarters of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan, a seminar was held with the theme "State-scientist-enterprise cooperation: Promoting research and development of strategic technologies - specialized chips". Within the framework of the seminar,FPT representatives shared FPT's plan to develop specialized chips called "Bonsai AI".

The event was attended by delegates from the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam, the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan, along with many Vietnamese experts and intellectuals in Japan and domestic enterprises. The seminar was co-organized by the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan, FPT Corporation and the Vietnam Digital Transformation Association in Japan (VADX).

This is the launching activity for the initiative "VS.TID Connection Platform" jointly built by the Embassy and FPT to connect Vietnamese intelligence at home and abroad, promote research projects, innovation and digital transformation to serve the socio-economic development of Vietnam.

In his opening remarks, the representative of the Ministry of Science and Technology outlined strategic technology orientations, called on scientists and businesses to participate in key R&D projects, and emphasized the role of specialized chips for security and the digital economy. Professor Pham Nam Hai (Tokyo University of Science) introduced the SOT-MRAM Edge AI chip project, opening up opportunities for international cooperation to develop strategic chips for Vietnam.

During the discussion, Mr. Nguyen Vinh Quang, Director of FPT Semiconductor, FPT Corporation shared FPT's plan to develop specialized chips called "Bonsai AI". This plan demonstrates the philosophy of focusing on streamlining, optimizing functions, targeting niche markets but with high technological value (each type of AI chip designed and manufactured by FPT is like a bonsai tree that is edited and pruned in a unique way).

After 3 years of establishing the company, up to now FPT has successfully designed many PMIC power chip lines that are currently being applied in personal electronic devices, household appliances, Smart Home systems and smart medical devices.

In the future, the company aims to develop AI-on-Edge SoC (System-on-Chip) integrated products, serving potential fields such as IoT (for example, FPT Camera's AI-on-chip application), healthcare (AI algorithm application on CGM continuous blood glucose monitoring devices) and agriculture - forestry - fishery (smart sensors for shrimp farming, measuring and monitoring soil and water environmental indicators, etc.)

At the end of the discussion, delegates discussed the central question: for which strategic products and in which areas should specialized chips be developed? Opinions all emphasized that the three-party cooperation model - the State, scientists and businesses - is the key to success. In which, the State has the role of guiding policies and supporting resources; scientists undertake the task of researching and mastering technology; and businesses are the force to deploy applications and commercialize research results.

The seminar opened a new direction, creating a foundation for deeper and more effective cooperation between the parties, and affirmed that specialized chips will become one of the strategic technologies, making an important contribution to the national development goals in the new period.
