President Luong Cuong will attend the high-level general debate of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, combined with bilateral activities in the US.
Welcoming the President and his wife at JF Kennedy International Airport were Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung; Ambassador, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the United Nations Do Hung Viet and staff of the Embassy and the Delegation.
This is President Luong Cuong’s first trip to attend a multilateral foreign activity at the largest global forum, of primary importance in the context of the United Nations celebrating its 80th anniversary. At the same time, the trip also marks the 2nd anniversary of the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the US and the 30th anniversary of the normalization of relations between the two countries.

The President will attend the high-level meeting commemorating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, deliver keynote speeches at the High-level General Debate of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly and the Special Global Summit on Climate Action. The President will also have bilateral meetings and contacts with leaders of international organizations and countries.
In addition, the President will have meetings with US leaders; receive businesses, financial institutions, long-time friends and partners, and leading scholars; attend a meeting between Vietnamese and US veterans; meet officials and staff of Vietnamese representative agencies and prominent representatives of the Vietnamese community.
The President also presided over the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day in New York.
Previously, in Seattle, President Luong Cuong received a delegation of Oregon lawmakers led by Congressman Nguyen Ba Loc, Chairman of the Oregon House Economic Development Committee.
The President stressed that 2025 is an important year for Vietnam-US relations, as it marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 2nd anniversary of the upgrade of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The two countries have maintained positive development momentum in all areas.
This is the time for Vietnam and the US to strengthen the foundation and depth of cooperation, continue to reap positive and substantive results, bring benefits to both countries and actively contribute to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world.
The President said that Vietnam is aiming for high and sustainable economic growth, implementing two strategic goals for 2030 and 2045. Accordingly, Vietnam needs the companionship and support of all countries, including the US in general and Oregon in particular.
Assessing Oregon as the “Silicon Jungle” - one of the leading centers of the US in science, high technology, semiconductors and renewable energy, the President stated that this is one of Vietnam’s important partners in promoting cooperation to successfully achieve high and sustainable economic growth.
Vietnam welcomes and is ready to create all favorable conditions for Oregon businesses and training institutions to expand cooperation, investment, research and development in Vietnam.

The President asked Congressman Nguyen Ba Loc and other members of the delegation to continue supporting the Vietnam-US relationship, enhancing economic-trade, science-technology and innovation cooperation; supporting Vietnam in developing a green economy, semiconductor industry, training high-quality human resources, meeting the requirements of sustainable development and integrating into the global supply chain; supporting and urging the US to soon recognize Vietnam's market economy status and remove Vietnam from the list of countries with restricted high-tech exports.
The Party and State of Vietnam always consider the overseas Vietnamese community in general and the Vietnamese community in the US in particular as an inseparable part of the Vietnamese national community, always creating favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese to stabilize their lives and contribute to their homeland.
The Oregon Congressional delegation expressed strong impressions of Vietnam’s development achievements. The congressmen are very interested in promoting cooperation with Vietnam in areas of strength such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor manufacturing, electronics - microchips, education - training, scientific research, green transformation, clean energy and high-tech agriculture.
The congressmen affirmed that they will continue to support the expansion of cooperative relations with Vietnam, consider the possibility of organizing trade promotion programs, academic connections, people-to-people exchanges, as well as welcoming delegations at all levels from Vietnam to visit Oregon state.
The delegation also pledged to continue accompanying the Vietnamese community in the state, supporting the protection of rights and creating conditions for overseas Vietnamese to effectively play the role of a bridge between the two countries.
Congressman Nguyen Ba Loc affirmed that as a son of Vietnam, he will do his best to unite the Vietnamese community in the US, stay attached to the homeland and country, and look towards the bright future of Vietnam and the Vietnam - US relationship, with the hope that future generations of the Vietnamese community will always understand and appreciate the origin of the Vietnamese people.
