According to a special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, on the morning of September 17 local time, in the capital Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation attended the meeting of the Executive Committee of the 46th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-46).
The session was chaired by Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives, President of AIPA-46 Tan Sri Dato' Johari Bin Abdul, with the participation of Heads of Delegations of AIPA member Parliaments and AIPA Secretary-General.
This is the first important activity within the framework of the 46th AIPA General Assembly to review and unify the agenda, discussion content of the Committees, list of draft resolutions and other important contents to be discussed and approved at the Conference.
Sharing the meaning of the AIPA-46 theme “Parliament at the forefront for an inclusive and sustainable growth ASEAN,” the National Assembly/Parliament leaders believe that the General Assembly theme is consistent with and resonates with the general theme of the ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2025, which is “Inclusive and Sustainable,” and at the same time demonstrates the responsibility and companionship of AIPA member National Assemblies/Parliaments in strengthening solidarity and building a resilient, creative, dynamic and people-centered ASEAN Community.
Speaking at the session, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man highly appreciated Malaysia's preparations; affirmed that the Vietnamese delegation supports and closely cooperates with the Malaysian Parliament and AIPA member parliaments/parliaments, actively contributing to the overall success of the 46th AIPA General Assembly, helping to promote inclusive and sustainable development in the region.
The National Assembly Chairman also highly appreciated the support of the National Assemblies/Parliaments of member countries for the draft resolutions proposed by Vietnam and submitted to the AIPA-46 General Assembly for approval to promote cooperation in priority areas such as digital economy, digital transformation, cyber security, enhancing intra-bloc trade, improving the effectiveness of cooperation with partners, etc., promoting the role of parliamentary diplomacy in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
On September 17, Vietnamese National Assembly deputies attended the fourth ASEAN-AIPA Dialogue with the theme “Building an inclusive and sustainable future,” the AIPA Women Leaders Forum with the theme “Women leaders in future governance: Leading digital transformation and sustainable development,” and the AIPA Young Parliamentarians Discussion Session with the theme “Youth in action.”
On the same afternoon, in the capital Kuala Lumpur, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man visited and worked with leaders of the Malaysian National Oil and Gas Group (Petronas).
Speaking at the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man stated that over the past time, the Vietnam-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has been continuously consolidated and developed deeply, achieving important achievements on both bilateral and multilateral levels. In particular, energy and oil and gas cooperation is an important pillar.
Petronas has been working with the Vietnam National Energy and Industry Group on many joint projects. The two sides are also expanding cooperation into new areas such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) and renewable energy.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man acknowledged and appreciated Petronas' positive contributions over the years to Vietnam's energy security as well as to the overall development of Vietnam-Malaysia relations.
The National Assembly Chairman also requested Petronas to continue to closely coordinate with the Vietnam National Energy Industry Group to effectively implement the committed contents, ensure progress, safety, and compliance with the laws of Vietnam and Malaysia, and specifically evaluate new generation energy projects to be put into commercial operation in 2025; at the same time, support training programs, technology transfer and human resource development so that each cooperation project not only brings economic value but also fosters friendship and builds sustainable cooperation for the future.
