Leading AI robotics company is about to ship 100,000 humanoid robots

(CLO) Figure, one of the leading manufacturers of humanoid robots, has just signed a contract with its second commercial customer, said to be "one of the largest companies in the US".

Figure CEO Brett Adcock revealed plans to ship 100,000 robots in the next four years, focusing on two main markets: commercial and home.

According to an update on LinkedIn, Mr. Adcock said the new contract gives Figure the opportunity to produce at scale, reduce costs, and collect AI data. Together with BMW as its first customer, the company believes this is an important step toward popularizing humanoid robots.

The identity of the second customer has not been revealed, however, although there is speculation that it could be Walmart, Amazon or a major healthcare conglomerate such as UnitedHealth Group or CVS Health.

Figure is considered one of the top two companies in the field of humanoid robotics, thanks to its rapid development progress. The company introduced Figure 01 just 31 months after its founding and is currently developing Figure 02. The Figure 03 model, currently being tested in the lab, is expected to be significantly improved.

AI played a key role in Figure’s development, allowing robots to learn how to perform tasks on their own rather than having to be programmed step-by-step. Adcock said the company has successfully tested the neural network on a real-world use case, opening up the possibility of optimizing tasks for greater speed and efficiency.

Figure 02 can currently move at a speed of 1.2 meters/second, which is still slower than the average human walking speed. However, at the current pace of development, many experts predict that the next versions will be faster and more efficient, possibly appearing on the market by the end of 2026.

Instead of expanding its customer base massively, Adcock emphasizes a strategy of focusing on a small number of large partners to grow in depth. This helps the company optimize its practical application capabilities and collect important AI data.

In addition to Figure, several other companies are competing in the humanoid robot field, including Agility Robotics with Digit, Tesla with Optimus, and many businesses from the US and China. Of the top 16 companies in this field, 6 are from the US, while the other 8 are based in China.

The emergence of humanoid robots in commercial environments not only helps improve technology but also lays the foundation for widespread application in many fields, from manufacturing to healthcare.
