The campaign "Let's Move Forward" was officially launched by Saigon Children's Charity (saigonchildren) to support children who lost loved ones due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
V. - the girl who sleeps in the market every night, dreaming of school
After his grandmother passed away due to the pandemic, V. (HCMC) only had his grandfather as his sole support. Since then, every night, V. brought his blanket and pillow to sleep in the wholesale market while waiting for his grandfather to finish work. Late at night, the two of them returned to their small rented room.
Mr. V.'s job as a porter at the wholesale market only earns him 4-5 million/month, enough to cover food and rent, and his income has not increased for several years. Despite the losses and difficulties in life, V. still perseveres in going to school, achieving excellent academic results even though his grandfather is illiterate and needs extra tutoring.
V. received support from the campaign.
V. is one of the children who lost loved ones to COVID-19 and need support within the framework of the "Moving Forward with Me" campaign.
Support for children facing many difficulties after COVID-19
In 2021, the "I am not alone" campaign was launched thanks to the coordination of social organizations in Vietnam, including saigonchildren. The campaign has provided emergency and long-term support for disadvantaged children who have lost their parents or primary caregivers due to COVID-19.
The pandemic has passed, but mental trauma and economic hardship still weigh heavily on the lives of children like V. Faced with that reality, saigonchildren has continued to launch the campaign "Step forward with me", focusing on supporting 41 children in the most difficult circumstances after the campaign "I am not alone".
Practical support from the community is delivered to children affected by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Children selected for support in the "Step Forward Together" campaign will receive a scholarship package that covers expenses such as tuition, textbooks, and uniforms. Depending on each case, there will also be additional support for monthly rice, health insurance, bus tickets, or emergency expenses.
In addition to material support, saigonchildren pays special attention to the comprehensive development of children. Every year, the organization strives to create conditions for children to participate in skills training programs, psychological and academic counseling, and receive timely support from a team of professional social workers.
The campaign is expected to ease past losses and not make children miss out on opportunities for a bright future.
Saigon Children's Charity CIO (or saigonchildren) is a charity registered in the UK since 1992, operating entirely in Vietnam in the field of education with the mission of removing barriers to education for disadvantaged children; operating with four main programs: Building schools in remote areas; Awarding scholarships to disadvantaged children; Supporting young people to learn vocational and skills; and Special education for children with disabilities.
