On September 11, Quang Ninh Regional General Hospital (Quang Tri) announced that the patient, Ms. LTTH (35 years old, residing in Ninh Chau commune, Quang Tri province) is gradually recovering after a 2-hour surgery. Previously, Ms. H. was admitted to the hospital with severe pain in the lower abdomen, accompanied by difficulty in defecation and urination.
During the examination, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hien, Deputy Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the hospital, discovered an abnormally sized tumor in the lower abdomen, with signs of bleeding and twisting, with a potential risk of rupture. Ultrasound and CT scan results showed that the ovarian cyst was as large as a grapefruit. Although the signs had been present for a long time, the patient did not go to the doctor, and was only admitted to the hospital when the pain became severe.

Immediately after the consultation, the doctors decided to perform emergency surgery to avoid complications. During the surgery, the tumor was found to be firmly attached to the uterus and sigmoid colon, making the surgery more complicated. The surgical team separated and removed the tumor, controlled the bleeding, and preserved the patient's reproductive organs. After nearly 2 hours, the surgery was successful. Ms. H. is now out of danger and continues to be monitored and treated for recovery.
Dr. Hien said that ovarian cyst torsion is an obstetric emergency that can lead to ovarian necrosis, abdominal bleeding, intestinal adhesions, and even be life-threatening if not treated promptly. The doctor added: "This is a typical case that shows that it is necessary to see a doctor immediately when the body shows abnormal signs, especially acute abdominal pain. Women should have regular gynecological examinations to prevent dangerous complications."
