Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online on July 7, the leader of Hai Phong station said that by noon the same day, the Hanoi - Hai Phong railway line had been reopened, after the incident in which the barge cabin collided with the underside of the Quay Bridge across the Dao Ha Ly River, causing the rails to shift.

The ability to reopen the line so soon was thanks to a team of technicians and workers who worked through the night to repair and adjust the shifted rail section on Quay Bridge back to its original position.

On the morning of July 7, Hai Phong Railway Transport Branch brought the locomotive to Quay Bridge area to test the load and check its operating capacity before opening the route.

Mr. Tran Van Hanh, director of the Hai Phong railway transport branch of the Hanoi - Hai Phong Railway Transport Company, said that by 12 noon on July 7, the railway line had returned to normal operation.

Currently, every day on the Hanoi - Hai Phong railway route there are 4 pairs of passenger trains and 1-3 pairs of freight trains in circulation.

As Tuoi Tre Online reported earlier, on the evening of July 6, a barge carrying cement from Lach Tray River to Dao Ha Ly River while passing Quay Bridge collided with the bridge, causing the rails to shift about 1 meter and the cabin of the barge was damaged.

This incident caused the train from Hanoi to Hai Phong station to be temporarily stopped, and could only reach Thuong Ly station, about 4km from the final station.

Authorities initially determined that floodwaters from upstream caused the river water to rise about 20cm higher than normal, causing the cabin of the barge to collide with the bridge.

The Swing Bridge in Hai Phong is 100m long and was built by the French in 1902. Previously, this bridge was able to rotate 90 degrees to make way for passing ships, but after being renovated, the bridge can no longer rotate.

After the new bridge nearby was built, the Quay Bridge is now used mainly for train and pedestrian traffic.
