Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone will create green space for sustainable economic and tourism development.

On August 11, the Phu Quoc Special Zone Party Committee held the 1st Congress of the Phu Quoc Special Zone Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term, with 247 official delegates (representing 3,479 party members from 63 party cells and party committees under the Party Committee of this special zone) attending.

Removing difficulties and quickly implementing projects to welcome APEC 2027

Mr. Nguyen Tien Hai - Secretary of An Giang Provincial Party Committee - said that looking back at the past 5 years (2020-2025 period), despite achieving outstanding results, the Phu Quoc Special Zone Party Committee needs to seriously recognize, evaluate and develop the economy in a balanced and harmonious manner; build synchronous infrastructure; strictly manage planning, land, forests, construction order, urban order and minerals.

The locality does not allow the encroachment of public land, forest land, illegal construction; complaints and disputes related to land, causing insecurity and social disorder.

In the next 5 years (2025-2030 period), Phu Quoc will be the venue for the Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum in 2027 (APEC 2027).

This event is especially important for Phu Quoc to develop into an international tourist center and complete infrastructure, attracting investment and tourism.

Mr. Hai requested the Phu Quoc Special Zone Party Committee to urgently study and propose to the Provincial and Central Party Committees a management model suitable to the island's unique characteristics to become a special administrative unit.

Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone needs to review, remove difficulties and speed up project implementation, unblock investment capital flows; adjust and supplement urban planning, ensure modern urban development standards, create green spaces, and develop sustainable economy and tourism.

Localities need to preserve forest and marine biodiversity and develop the economy in conjunction with environmental protection.

" The Party Committee and government of Phu Quoc special economic zone need to focus on taking good care of people's lives. In addition to ensuring national defense, security and social order, the locality must effectively exploit historical relics and scenic spots; train human resources, preserve and promote the value of traditional craft villages associated with tourism development, creating sustainable livelihoods for people," Mr. Hai emphasized.

Breakthroughs in the development of Phu Quoc special economic zone

According to the Phu Quoc Special Zone Party Committee, in the 5-year term (2020-2025), the locality has achieved many outstanding economic development milestones such as the total retail sales of goods and service revenue by 2025 is estimated at VND 56,317 billion, an average increase of more than 11%/year; revenue from accommodation and catering services increased by more than 16%/year.

It is expected that by the end of 2025, Phu Quoc will welcome 8.5 million visitors, including more than 1 million international visitors, an average increase of 48.3% per year.

Phu Quoc has the largest number of investment projects in the whole province, with 320 projects, total registered investment capital of more than 431,000 billion VND.

During the 2025-2030 term, the Phu Quoc Special Zone Party Committee identified breakthroughs in island development, including: Phu Quoc will strive to become a smart, modern special zone and a livable place; develop marine economy, services and tourism.

Localities focus on improving the quality of human resources, especially leaders and managers who must have sufficient qualities and capacity to meet assigned tasks.

In addition, promote digital transformation, build smart government, develop science and technology, international integration and popularize English for Phu Quoc people to become cultural and tourism "ambassadors".
