From July 1, 2025, Phu Quy officially became the only special economic zone of Lam Dong province. The establishment of the special economic zone opens a new stage of development in the management and organization of the government apparatus to be more streamlined, professional, and serve the people more effectively.

This is an important political event, creating great trust and expectation among the people for a sustainable future development of the island.

Phu Quy Special Zone was established on the basis of merging three communes of Long Hai, Ngu Phung and Tam Thanh, with the administrative-political center located in Ngu Phung commune.

The special zone has a natural area of 18 square kilometers, a population of about 32,000 people, located 56 nautical miles (about 120 km) southeast of Phan Thiet port. Phu Quy has an important strategic position in the East Sea and great potential for developing the marine economy and tourism.

People expect that when it becomes a special economic zone, Phu Quy will have its own management mechanism, creating motivation to effectively exploit its strengths in tourism and marine economy.

Mr. Le Minh Suong, a resident of Phu Quy Island, expressed his wish for a specific policy to be soon issued for the tourism industry to develop more strongly; at the same time, he requested that the Central and local governments continue to have policies to support fishermen to go offshore, contributing to affirming the sovereignty of the sea and islands.

Right from the first days of operation, the Phu Quy Special Zone Public Administration Center has operated effectively and been highly appreciated by the people.

Mr. Tran Huynh (Long Hai commune) shared: “I see that the staff work very professionally, receive people warmly, and handle procedures quickly and conveniently. I hope the government will maintain this working style to better serve the people.”

Mr. Vo Van Van (Ngu Phung commune) said: "Procedures related to real estate documents are resolved quickly and effectively. This creates great convenience for the development of Phu Quy special zone."

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Linh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Quy Special Zone, the government has proactively prepared since June, completing the infrastructure, selecting qualified officials, ensuring that when the special zone is operational, it will operate smoothly and serve the people well. The special zone government model allows the commune level to directly handle work, listen to and promptly handle feedback, especially related to natural resources and the environment.

Phu Quy’s marine economic strength continues to be affirmed with key industries such as offshore exploitation, aquaculture, and seafood processing for export. These industries are bringing high added value, creating stable jobs, and promoting the shift in local labor structure. Along with the marine economy, tourism is identified as the second key economic sector.

Phu Quy has a rich marine ecosystem, pristine landscape, fine white sand beaches, pristine coral reefs and unique fishing culture, making it an attractive destination for domestic and foreign tourists.

With the special economic zone officially coming into operation, the people and government of Phu Quy have high expectations for a period of strong and sustainable development, improving the lives of coastal people, and contributing to firmly protecting the sovereignty of the Fatherland's sea and islands./.
