We went to an elementary school in Ho Chi Minh City on "Open House" day - opening the school to welcome parents to come to school with their children, visit the kitchen, watch the food distribution process and try the lunch meal with their children. In a class of 32 students, 20 parents of this class signed up to eat with their children. This shows that parents are very interested in how their children eat at school.
To give parents more peace of mind about school meals, the authorities and departments have recently issued many documents and plans to strengthen inspections, focusing on surprise inspections of school meal providers, collective kitchens, canteens, and food services in schools; requiring the Departments of Education and Training and relevant authorities to strengthen food safety in schools. In addition, interdisciplinary inspection teams can come without notice.
For schools, whether they order meals from a catering company or have an on-site kitchen, each unit has increased supervision and regular and surprise inspections, with parents always participating in the inspection team.
But obviously, the inspection teams of the school board, school health or parents cannot (and are not fully capable) always be able to closely monitor all the catering companies or kitchens to see if the process is correct or not, if the license is complete, if the food is of clear origin, if the meal is safe and nutritionally balanced or not. Not to mention that monitoring a catering company is much more difficult than a kitchen located in a school.
The root problem is that all the legal bases for building, organizing, and managing safe boarding meals for students already exist, requiring serious, transparent, and legal compliance by everyone, all parties, at all stages. From providing food ingredients, preliminary processing, processing, distribution, preservation, transportation, etc. Any violation must be handled seriously. Because each boarding meal directly affects the life, health, and long-term physical and mental development of children.
Parents who register their children for boarding school, pay all the fees related to the organization of boarding school and boarding meals, all have legitimate demands. These are meals that, first of all, need to be safe, full of nutrition and energy. And more broadly, they are happy meals that are scientifically organized where children learn more about food, connect with teachers and friends, learn independence, discipline and appreciate labor.
Many localities across the country are building happy schools. Comprehensive happiness is built on many factors, from people, to the environment, processes, etc. However, there are simple factors that are one of the conditions that make students happy when going to school, such as safe, nutritious and fun meals.
