Information technology (IT) majors at prestigious universities in technology training continue to maintain high scores although some majors have had slight downward adjustments.
At Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the leading school in the field of engineering and technology, the standard score for the IT industry in 2024 reached 28.53 points for the major of computer science , down 0.89 points compared to 2023. This is considered a significant decrease among the top schools.
For other IT training programs of this school, the benchmark score in the past 3 years has never dropped below 27.25 points. This means that candidates need to achieve an average of 9.12 to 9.51 points/subject to have a chance to be admitted to the major.
Similarly, the University of Technology - Vietnam National University , Hanoi also recorded a steady decrease in the standard score for the IT industry: from 29.15 points in 2022, to 27.85 points in 2023 and continued to decrease by 0.05 points in 2024.
Despite the decrease, the school's standard is still maintained above 27.5 points, requiring candidates to achieve an average of 9.27 points/subject to be admitted.
At the National Economics University, the score is more "relaxed" when the score decreases from 27 points (30-point scale) in 2022 to 35.17 points (40-point scale) in 2024.
In Southern universities, the benchmark scores for IT majors also showed slight fluctuations. At the University of Information Technology – Ho Chi Minh City National University, the benchmark score for the regular training program decreased from 27.9 points (in 2022) to 26.9 points (in 2023), then increased slightly to 27.1 points (in 2024).
Vietnam - Japan IT industry (7480201_N) has a standard score 1-1.6 points lower than the main program.
The University of Science – Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City recorded a similar trend, when the group of computer and information technology majors (7480201_NN) decreased by 0.7 points to 26.5 points (in 2023), then increased to 26.75 points (in 2024).
Notably, the International University – Ho Chi Minh City National University has a sharp drop in scores. The regular IT major here decreased from 27.5 points (in 2022) to 24 points (in 2024). Some other programs of the industry also maintained a stable score of 21 points, creating opportunities for many good candidates to pursue this major.

Summary of IT industry benchmark scores over the past three years (Synthesized by Tuyet Luu).
With competitive scores, candidates must be truly excellent to be admitted to the IT major at top schools, but there are still schools that train in the major with entrance scores more suitable for many students with average scores such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology, Van Lang, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Gia Dinh...
Recently, many candidates have turned to emerging fields such as data science, artificial intelligence (AI), and cybersecurity, which are trained at schools with strengths in IT, so the scores have gradually cooled down. The expansion of enrollment scale at schools also contributes to reducing competitive pressure.
In general, the IT industry is still a "hot" industry, always maintaining its attractiveness thanks to its large human resource demand and wide open job opportunities.
