Revenue increased thanks to improved quality of cargo shipping services

The railway has implemented many solutions to exploit and improve the quality of freight train services, bringing high revenue growth.

Promote the exploitation of specialized ships, revenue growth

Having just seen off the express freight train leaving Yen Vien station early this morning, Mr. Nguyen Trong Trung, Deputy Station Chief of Hanoi Railway Attendant Station (Hanoi Railway Attendant Group under Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company) happily shared that this time there was a lot of cargo so there were more trains, the work of the train conductors and technical workers on the wagons was also better.

Mr. Trung said that currently, Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company is organizing freight trains running between Yen Vien - Song Than. These are express freight trains, the journey is just over 40 hours; goods are packed in containers, sealed with lead. The train has high revenue, on average about 270 million VND to 280 million VND/trip, equivalent to 540 million VND to 560 million VND/turn. Therefore, it is necessary for train captains and technical escort workers to follow the train to perform cargo tasks quickly, ensure safety, and ensure the train schedule.

"This is one of the prerequisites, contributing to improving service quality so that customers trust and continue to choose rail transport. Therefore, the unit has selected and arranged 48 train leaders with solid professional skills, proactive and flexible in work, divided into 16 train teams to meet the task. At the same time, we take care of living conditions on the train and accommodation at the station so that the brothers can work with peace of mind, ensuring service to customers," said Mr. Trung.

For more information, the leader of Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company said that the company has worked with Viettel Post Joint Stock Corporation (Military Telecommunications Industry Group) to organize the operation of additional pairs of express trains HH15/16 to transport containers from Yen Vien to Song Than and vice versa with a frequency of 6 pairs/week. From there, the number of express freight trains on this route will increase to an average of 22 pairs/week.

Therefore, despite the impact of the Bai Gio tunnel collapse and the Chi Thanh tunnel collapse on the North-South railway line, which forced the cancellation of many trains, revenue from trains on the North-South route in the first 9 months of 2024 still increased by 7% compared to the same period in 2023.

At the same time, the company worked with units of the Vietnam Chemical Group to regularly run 2 pairs of cargo ships/day specializing in transporting apatite between Xuan Giao - Lam Thao; bringing 9-month revenue to increase by 11% compared to the same period in 2023.

Flexible freight rates, exploiting many new cargo flows

The leader of Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company said that in the first 9 months of 2024, despite many difficulties, cargo transport output and revenue both increased compared to the same period in 2023: Tonnage increased by 9%, revenue increased by 8%.

This is the result of many solutions to promote freight transport. Along with maintaining stability and developing traditional cargo flows such as: North-South freight trains, apatite, international freight, cement, fertilizer, domestic materials, food, etc., the unit actively searches for and exploits new cargo flows and expands and develops existing cargo flows.

At the same time, there are flexible solutions for freight rates. The company regularly monitors the market economy and raw material prices to adjust freight rates based on the following principles: Freight rates are built on the basis of transportation costs, selling prices must be consistent with market prices; long-distance transportation is encouraged; freight rates for two-way transportation are lower than for one-way transportation. Freight rates are reduced to attract freight to take advantage of empty return routes; freight rates are consistent with the characteristics of each route and each cargo flow.

The company also implements many operational solutions to optimize cost efficiency such as: Organizing reasonable train operations, establishing trains of sufficient length and frequency, prioritizing the establishment of through-haul freight trains, limiting freight trains in cutting-off sections, and improving cargo delivery speed.

Thoroughly prevent the unloading and pulling of freight cars. Prioritize the allocation of freight cars with a flow that can handle two-way cargo, large-volume, stable cargo, high freight, and fast wagon rotation such as apatite and international transit.

Arrange large-capacity locomotives to pull freight trains, increase the total weight of the train to reduce the number of train pairs without reducing transport output.

"Every day, closely monitor the unloading of goods at each point to urge unloading and release wagons, thereby having wagons to supply goods, promptly meeting the requirements of the cargo owners. At the same time, based on the unloading capacity of each station and each cargo owner, to arrange appropriate loading vehicles, limit the supply of vehicles to points that are being unloaded, pulled, etc. All solutions are aimed at improving service quality, best meeting customer needs", the leader of Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company emphasized.
