Quang Dien Commune Party Committee gives opinions on resettlement plan for North-South high-speed railway project passing through the area.

People are excited and in agreement.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Oanh, residing in Dap Goc resettlement area, My Thuong ward, shared: "In recent days, my family has been excited to hear that a high-speed railway line will pass through the area. The happiest thing is that the area has Phu My station. We know that it will have some impact on our lives, but thanks to the resettlement support mechanism and policies, everyone is reassured and looks forward to the day we see the modern railway line pass through."

In My Thuong ward, statistics show that there are 602 households affected, all of which need resettlement. In addition, the project also affects 2 schools, 1 communal house and 4,500 graves that need to be relocated. But instead of worrying, people expressed their consensus, because they trust in the attention and close direction of the city government in the work of site clearance and resettlement arrangement according to the law.

Mr. Doan Van Sy, Chairman of My Thuong Ward People's Committee affirmed: "We always coordinate closely with relevant units so that the work of reviewing, clearing land, and investing in resettlement areas is synchronized and on schedule. The most important thing is to ensure the rights and stabilize the lives of the people so that when giving up land for the project, people can truly feel secure and confident."

Not only in My Thuong, in Dan Dien commune, these days, village meetings and meetings between commune leaders and people take place quite often. People are not only informed about project progress and planning work but also boldly express their opinions, thoughts and wishes to receive timely answers.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tien, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dan Dien Commune, said: "The route through the locality has an area of over 52.6 hectares, affecting about 3,200 people; of which 138 cases need resettlement. The locality has proactively planned 3 resettlement areas and 1 cemetery to serve the relocation and reburial. This is a big project, affecting many households, but if we do a good job of mass mobilization and listen to the people, we will certainly receive high consensus."

More development opportunities

Up to now, the People's Committee of Hue City has started construction of a number of resettlement areas such as Bac Trieu Vinh (Phong Thai ward), Phu Cuong Xuyen, Loc Tien phase 2 (Chan May - Lang Co commune), Phu Da (Phu Vang)... These are resettlement areas among a total of 22 other resettlement areas to accommodate households cleared to serve the North - South high-speed railway project.

Ms. Vo Thi Que Huong, Deputy Director of the Department of Finance, emphasized: “The city has directed localities to review and plan closely. The progress of site clearance and resettlement arrangements must be ensured, because this is a prerequisite for the project to be implemented according to the plan set out by the Government .”

Not only is it a story of infrastructure, the North-South high-speed railway project is also expected to open up many development opportunities for Hue. With the travel time from North to South shortened to only 5-6 hours instead of 12-24 hours, Hue will have more opportunities to welcome tourists from major centers; at the same time, it will become an important transit point for goods and services in the Central region. New resettlement areas also promise to form satellite cities, creating space for even development, reducing pressure on the city center.

It can be seen that although the project has a large scale of land clearance, directly affecting thousands of households, but thanks to good propaganda work, the government has received high consensus. People believe that the city will have a new, more spacious and modern appearance when the North - South high-speed railway is completed.

Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee Nguyen Van Phuong, in a recent related conference to urge the project's progress, reminded units and localities to simultaneously deploy resettlement areas to be ready for site clearance. Based on the planned route, localities will urgently complete all site handover work for the project by the end of 2026.

The North-South high-speed railway project through Hue City is more than 95km long, passing through 12 communes and wards. On the route, there is Phu My passenger station (My Thuong ward) and Chan May potential station (Chan May commune - Lang Co). It is expected that more than 8,100 households will be affected, about 825 hectares of land will have to be recovered; 22 resettlement areas and many cemeteries will be invested in localities where the railway passes through.
