Previously, in early 2024, the Party Committee and the government in Ha Tinh began to come up with ideas and implement steps to build an artificial bird garden to preserve wild birds. At the same time, it is expected to contribute to exploiting and developing the potential of eco- tourism , experiential tourism, and protecting the landscape and environment.

Artificial islands are where migratory birds come to nest.

After reviewing and surveying many locations in the area, it was found that the Dong River area has a large, pristine area with a diverse and interesting river ecosystem, swamps and vegetation, and rich natural food sources... so local leaders decided to choose this area to implement the artificial bird garden project.

In the past, in the Dong River area, during the annual rainy and stormy seasons, many wild birds such as storks, sedges, herons, etc. migrated to take shelter. However, because the natural conditions were not suitable, these birds later flew away.

After choosing the location, local leaders invited Mr. Le Danh Cuong (in Ca Mau province), who has many years of experience in building bird gardens and is an "expert" in attracting wild birds, to come and support consulting and construction.

Because the Dong River area does not have natural forests and large-canopy trees, the first thing to do is to create a suitable environment by planting trees such as: banyan, coconut, bamboo, purple water lily, cajuput and some other native plants to create artificial islands and bird-attracting areas.

From mid-2024, the idea was officially implemented. With the determination of the locality and the active support of Mr. Cuong, the positive response from the people and organizations, businesses, and individuals joined hands to contribute working days, seedlings, vehicles, plant tens of thousands of trees of all kinds, complete the landscape, lakes, bird islands... to create a shelter for flocks of wild birds.

After many efforts, up to now, on the banks of the Dong River, a wild bird sanctuary has been formed, adapting to the new living environment. Here, there are also hundreds of migratory birds such as storks, sedges, herons, teals, herons, and cotton-feathered ducks... In addition, there are also some other bird species such as lion pigeons, water pheasants, and wild ducks... raised to create biodiversity.

Birds not only migrate to the artificial bird garden to settle down but also contribute to enriching the natural life of the area, opening up the prospect of a sustainable ecological bird population in the future. At the same time, promoting the exploitation and development of ecotourism potential, nature conservation and environmental education in the locality.

Birds of all kinds come to the bird garden on the Don River

According to Mr. Hoang Van Nam (53 years old, the caretaker of the bird garden), the Dong River area used to be a wild land but now it has become a safe haven for many wild birds. Every morning, hearing the chirping of birds and seeing them flying naturally among the trees, he and many other people believe that the implementation of an artificial bird garden is very reasonable.

"We continue to renovate, take care of trees, clean the environment, and keep the landscape quiet so that wild birds can live and live long-term. Hopefully, in the near future, this bird garden will become an interesting destination for tourists who love nature and want to experience eco-tourism in Ha Tinh," said Mr. Hoang Van Nam.

Wild birds are adapting well to the ecological environment on the banks of the Dong River.

According to some residents in Thanh Sen ward, although it has just been built, the artificial bird garden on the Dong river bank has truly become a common home for many species of wild birds. In the coming time, when the green tree system continues to grow lush and green, this place will certainly attract an increasing number of migratory birds to come and live.

This is also the premise for building an ecosystem that preserves fascinating and diverse biodiversity; an ideal tourist experience destination for locals and visitors.
