Total effort to drill a tunnel through the mountain connecting Ha Tinh - Quang Tri

TPO - After a period of construction, the Deo Ngang tunnel connecting Ha Tinh and Quang Tri with a length of 555m is almost open. The investor and the project implementation unit are making efforts to complete and put the project into use on schedule.

These days, engineers and workers are divided into many construction teams to "work together" to carry out the items of the Deo Ngang tunnel expansion project. Construction is carried out simultaneously at both the South and North tunnel entrances.

According to the construction unit representative, up to now, the unit has drilled about 550m, the remaining 5m will be cleared in the coming days.

According to records, at the northern tunnel entrance in Hoanh Son ward ( Ha Tinh ), after drilling and removing soil and rock, the tunnel shell was reinforced with a steel reinforcement system and concrete spraying.

The contractor plans to drill through the Deo Ngang tunnel in the next few days. To ensure safety during construction in an environment with little air, workers are equipped with protective equipment, including gas masks.

Meanwhile, at the southern tunnel entrance in Phu Trach commune ( Quang Tri province), the project implementation unit is also actively removing the last amount of soil and rock to soon complete the tunnel drilling.

The outside of the tunnel is covered with tarpaulin and firmly reinforced to prevent sliding.

Along with the construction of Deo Ngang tunnel, the contractor is also implementing the bridge and approach road projects in parallel.

Dong Bo Bridge in the North of Deo Ngang Tunnel has nearly completed 28 bored piles, completed M2 pier, T3 pier and is continuing with T2 pier, producing Super T girder. Dong Muoi Bridge is digging foundation pits for M1 and M2 pier. The road section in the North in Ha Tinh province has completed the stone foundation, the South in Quang Tri province is digging the foundation and installing the drainage system along the route.

The new Deo Ngang Tunnel is one of the projects included in the projects to upgrade and expand a number of bridges and tunnels on National Highway 1 with a total investment of nearly VND 2,000 billion approved by the Ministry of Construction at the end of December 2023. In particular, the Deo Ngang road tunnel and more than 2km of access road to the tunnel have a construction value of more than VND 340 billion.

The new tunnel is 555m long and 10.5m wide. When completed, Deo Ngang tunnel will operate two parallel tunnel tubes with a roadbed width of up to 20.5m, providing four lanes for motor vehicles and two lanes for non-motorized vehicles.
