Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Project: Successfully implemented the first oil firing of Boiler Unit 1

(Chinhphu.vn) - On the morning of August 18, in Phu Trach commune, Quang Tri province, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) and Power Project Management Board 2 held the first oil firing ceremony of Boiler Unit 1 of Quang Trach Thermal Power Plant I project.

At the ceremony, Director of Power Project Management Board 2 Nguyen Van Thanh said that the first oil firing of Boiler Unit 1 of Quang Trach Thermal Power Project was successfully carried out at 11:00 a.m. on August 16, 2025. This is an important milestone in the project implementation, moving from construction to the start-up phase and moving towards synchronization and power generation of the units.

Speaking at the ceremony, EVN General Director Nguyen Anh Tuan emphasized that the organization of the first oil firing ceremony of Unit 1 boiler received great attention from the leaders of Quang Tri province and EVN, creating a highlight in the project implementation process as well as creating a vibrant competitive atmosphere for the units participating in the construction, solidarity, coordination and efforts to strive to excellently complete the task, at the same time arousing the sense of responsibility, the will to overcome difficulties and the spirit of creative work, determined to synchronize Unit 1 in 2025 and generate electricity for both units in 2026.

According to EVN leaders, to complete the target of generating electricity for the units in 2026, the project's workload is still very large and complicated. Therefore, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan requested the Power Project Management Board 2, Consultants and Contractors to closely follow the target, closely follow each specific task, especially the items and systems on the project's progress critical path, promptly detect difficulties and obstacles, and find all solutions to resolve them.

Contractors are requested to focus all resources to speed up progress, ensure quality, safety and environment during construction.

"As an investor, I pledge to always stand side by side, create favorable conditions to help, and be willing to share difficulties with contractors on the basis of signed contracts," Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan affirmed.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Hoang Nam, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province, emphasized that after today's event, the next important goals are to put Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant into commercial operation in 2026; start construction of Quang Trach II LNG Plant and select an investor for Quang Trach III LNG Plant to ensure progress according to the approved Power Plan VIII.

To soon realize these goals, the leaders of Quang Tri province requested Vietnam Electricity Group, as the investor, to concentrate maximum resources, direct units to speed up construction progress, ensure quality, labor safety, ensure the environment, security, order and social safety in the area.

The joint ventures of contractors, consultants and construction units continue to promote the spirit of responsibility, overcome the sun and rain, compete in creative labor, create new momentum and new determination to complete progress targets on schedule as planned.

The Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant Project under the Quang Trach Power Center was assigned by EVN to the Power Project Management Board 2 as the investor representative along with projects at the Quang Trach Power Center with a total area of ​​about 48.6 hectares in Phu Trach commune, Quang Tri province (formerly Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province).

The project includes 2 units with a total installed capacity of 1,403 MW. When put into operation, the plant will provide the national power system with an annual electricity output of about 9.1 billion kWh, contributing to ensuring national energy security and improving the safety and stability of the power system. The total investment of the project is more than 42,000 billion VND, using EVN's capital (30%) and domestic commercial loans (70%) sponsored by the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam.

The project's design, supply of goods and construction package is implemented by a joint venture of three contractors, Mitsubishi Corporation (Japanese contractor), Hyundai E&C (Korean contractor) and Construction Corporation No. 1 (Vietnamese contractor). These are all large, reputable contractors with capacity and experience in many large thermal power projects. The project uses USC technology (ultra-supercritical) with the highest plant parameters in Vietnam today.
