On the morning of September 19, the leader of the People's Committee of Bo De Ward ( Hanoi ) said that the local government had coordinated with functional forces to salvage two bombs in the middle of the Red River, about 30m upstream from Long Bien Bridge.
Previously, on the evening of September 18, the engineering force of the Capital Command, along with officers and soldiers of the Defense Cluster of Region 4 - Gia Lam and the Military Command of Bo De Ward, deployed to salvage and handle two bombs left over from the war.
According to authorities, these two bombs were identified as M-118 demolition bombs, weighing more than 1,300 kg, 220 cm long, 65 cm in diameter, containing about 800 kg of TNT explosives. When discovered, both bombs still had fuses and were assessed as extremely dangerous.
It is known that these two bombs were discovered by fishermen at around 3:00 p.m. on September 15 in the middle of the Red River, about 30 meters upstream of Long Bien Bridge.
Immediately after receiving the information, the Defense Command of Region 4 - Gia Lam mobilized forces, coordinated with the Military Command of Bo De Ward to move the two bombs to a safe location, organized strict guard and reported to superiors to agree on a handling plan.
According to plan, 2 bombs will be moved and detonated at Cam Son Shooting Range ( Bac Ninh ).
