The first day of school for the "little rookies" is inevitably filled with "half-laughing, half-crying" situations.

Having a son, Nguyen Gia Khiem, entering first grade this year (Linh Dam Primary School, Hoang Mai District), Nguyen Van Dinh's family got up early in the morning to prepare to take their son to his new school.

“Before that, my child was very excited about wearing a school bag and a school uniform. He even counted the days until he could go to his new school. What I felt most secure about was that when he arrived at his new class, he was not too unfamiliar or shy. The new school is quite spacious, the teachers are enthusiastic, so I am very confident in his upcoming journey,” Mr. Dinh shared.

It is known that Linh Dam Primary School has a plan for first graders to participate in summer activities every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning, from 7:30 to 10:30. Summer activities include learning life skills, performing arts, and learning games.

In addition, for first graders, teachers and students will get acquainted with and unify the symbols used by the teacher in class, practice discipline, guide students in using small boards, pencils and notebooks, and create good habits for their children, ” said a representative of Linh Dam Primary School.

This morning, Phuong Canh Primary School (Nam Tu Liem District) also organized a welcoming ceremony for first graders to get acquainted with the new environment. According to the reporter, many students were shy and timid in the new environment, but after a short time, they got acquainted and got along with their friends.

The school welcomed 174 first graders on July 29 with activities to help children get acquainted with the school and hopefully dispel the confusion of the "first day of school", said Ms. Nguyen Thanh Thuy, Principal of Nam Tu Liem Primary School.

In the coming time, children will mainly participate in life skills clubs, arts, music , dance, soccer... The school will not teach the first grade program in advance.

" It is expected that this week, first graders will be trained in discipline such as going to the toilet, greeting teachers, lining up, working in groups... For first graders, discipline must be trained so that they can study effectively," Ms. Thuy added.

The first day of school for the "new recruits" is not without its share of "half-laughing, half-crying" situations. Ms. Nguyen Thu Nga, a teacher at a primary school in Hanoi , said: "This morning - the first day of class, some children, not yet used to the routine, still fell asleep on their parents' shoulders. Their mother called them repeatedly, then they woke up and walked into the school yard.

When the students were brought into the classroom to get acquainted, many of them were not yet used to the rules so they ran out of their seats. One even shouted loudly: "I want to pee"...

Ms. Nga said there was a student who was assigned a seat but looked around and couldn't see his parents, so he started crying. She had to go down to talk to him before he stopped sobbing.

Ms. Hoang Thi Tra My (Hoang Mai district) - a parent whose child is entering first grade this year, expressed her concern: "When I came to receive the class and get to know the teacher, my child refused to go into the classroom, grabbed my shirt and wanted to go home. I had to coax him for a long time but he refused, and even lay down on the school yard crying, making many people look at him with pity.

Before going to school, I also did some ideological work, telling my child how exciting school was, how there were games and new friends, but he was still not excited. This morning, I had to ask the homeroom teacher to coax and analyze him before he agreed to follow the teacher to class.

According to statistics from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, in the 2023-2024 school year, the number of students of admission age in the first grades increased sharply compared to the 2022-2023 school year.

This year, Hanoi has about 155,600 students entering grade 1 and 188,400 students entering grade 6. Thus, the number of grade 6 students increased by approximately 38,000 students, and the number of grade 1 students increased by nearly 12,000 students. To meet the sharp increase in the number of students, many districts have had to expand and build new schools.
