Durian prices continue to move sideways?

Durian price forecast on May 25, 2024, after 1 or 2 days of slight decrease, Ri6 durian price and Thai durian price in the Southwest region continue to remain unchanged compared to yesterday.

The harvest season has begun, so domestic durian output is abundant, meeting domestic consumption and export demand, so durian prices can fluctuate daily.

Previously, the price of durian today, May 24, was highest in the Southwest region and lowest in the Southeast and Central Highlands. The price at the garden will be lower by 3,000 - 5,000 VND/kg depending on how the trader buys, buying in bulk or buying selectively.

Accordingly, Ri6 durian is at 71,000 - 85,000 VND/kg; Thai durian is at 90,000 - 98,000 VND/kg; Musangking durian is at 100,000 - 105,000 VND/kg.

In the Southwestern region, durian prices have slightly decreased today. The beautiful Ri6 durian variety is 68,000 - 70,000 VND and the Ri6 durian is 55,000 - 60,000 VND/kg; the beautiful Thai durian is 97,000 - 100,000 VND/kg; the Thai durian is 83,000 - 85,000 VND/kg.

In the Southeast region, the price of durian today fluctuated compared to yesterday. Specifically, Ri6 is 71,000 - 74,000 and Ri6 durian is purchased by traders at 60,000 - 70,000 VND/kg; Thai durian is 95,000 - 98,000 VND/kg; meanwhile, Thai durian is 80,000 - 83,000 VND/kg.

In the Central Highlands, the price of beautiful Ri6 durian is at 65,000 - 68,000 VND/kg and Ri6 durian is at the price that traders buy at 50,000 - 55,000 VND/kg; beautiful Thai durian is at 95,000 - 98,000 VND/kg; meanwhile, Thai durian is at 78,000 - 78,000 VND/kg.

Known as the king of fruits, since being officially exported to the Chinese market in July 2022, durian has become an expensive fruit, averaging 140-230 thousand VND/kg.

Normally, each durian weighs from 2-4kg, so to buy a delicious durian to enjoy, consumers have to spend from several hundred thousand to millions of dong. However, recently, on the market appeared a type of mini durian weighing only from 0.3-1.2kg, sold at a price of 90-180 thousand dong/kg, making many people excited, rushing to buy this type of durian to eat.

Mini Thai durian imported to Vietnam this year has a price halved compared to last year, about 65,000-140,000 VND per kg.

Surveys at stores and online markets show that "tiny" Thai durians are coming to Vietnam at lower prices than last year. Many wholesalers advertise the price at around 40,000 - 45,000 VND/kg, and retail at 65,000 - 140,000 VND (depending on the establishment). This price is half of last year's price.

The owner of an online fruit store in Ho Chi Minh City said he imports about 85-100 boxes at a time. Each box has 20 of these fruits, weighing 25-30 kg. The miniature durian with small fruit is quite easy to sell, each fruit costs only 60,000-130,000 VND, making it affordable for consumers.

The reason why the price of mini Thai durian is cheaper this year compared to the same period, according to fruit traders, is because of abundant supply. In addition, transportation costs have been cut in half last year and Vietnamese people prefer cheap mini products, so "tiny" Thai durian is popular.
