Health authorities in France have warned of a dangerous new social media trend: encouraging the creation of temporary "tattoos" through deliberate sun exposure.

French Health and Care Minister Yannick Neuder has issued a warning about social media trends that encourage unprotected sun exposure to create visible tan lines – known as “sun tattoos”, “sunburns” or “sunspots”.
tan".

New trends emerging on social media include skipping sunscreen to get a clear tan or encouraging people to draw a design with sunscreen to create a lasting impression, similar to a temporary tattoo.

The growing popularity of these "sun tattoos" has prompted French health authorities to issue a direct warning on X-network about the risks.

In a video titled "Sun tattoos, sunburns, suntans. Don't sacrifice your skin for 30 seconds of sunstroke!", French Health and Care Minister Neuder condemned the practice, saying: "Sun exposure without sunscreen or other skin protection, sometimes using oils or Monoi (a beauty oil created by soaking Tiare jasmine flowers in coconut oil) accelerates the damage to create a sunburn tattoo, which is extremely dangerous."

Mr. Neuder emphasized that 85% of skin cancers are related to sun exposure in childhood, especially in young people.

According to the French Public Health Agency, there are 240,000-250,000 cases of skin cancer diagnosed each year in France, including approximately 112,960-194,800 cases due to excessive exposure to ultraviolet rays.

Excessive sun exposure also accelerates skin aging and causes DNA damage, which can lead to melanoma and carcinoma.

Secretary Neuder reiterated essential skin cancer prevention measures, including seeking shade, applying high SPF sunscreen, wearing protective hats and limiting sun exposure.

"Your skin is your life. You only have one skin. Don't sacrifice it for a 30-second pleasure.

We will contact European authorities and social media platforms to ban these dangerous trends," said Minister Neuder.
