Gold price today August 6: Anchored at a sky-high level

Domestic gold prices remained high, the difference between buying and selling prices narrowed to 1.6 million VND/tael - the lowest level ever.

Saigon Jewelry Company - SJC bought gold bars for 122.2 million VND and sold for 123.8 million VND. Doji Group bought for 122.2 million VND and sold for 123.8 million VND. Mi Hong Company increased the price of SJC gold bars by 300,000 VND for buying, to 122.6 million VND; and increased the selling price by 500,000 VND, to 123.8 million VND... The gap between the buying and selling price of gold bars is 1.6 million VND/tael.

Similarly, SJC Company did not change the price of gold rings, buying at 116.8 million VND, selling at 119.4 million VND. Phu Quy Company increased the price by 200,000 VND per tael of gold rings, buying at 116.9 million VND, selling at 119.9 million VND...

Gold prices fell slightly by $4 to $3,378 an ounce after rising sharply in the US trading session (night of August 5) by $35 an ounce. Speculators returned to gold after stocks were sold off and fell sharply. Gold fell again after the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) services PMI index fell to 50.1 in July, compared to 50.8 in June and below the expected figure of 51.5. The US services sector weakened last month as business activity, employment and price pressures worsened amid tariff concerns.

According to the World Gold Council (WGC), central banks reported a net purchase of 22 tonnes of gold in June through the IMF, not counting other public sources that also sheltered in the precious metal, bringing net purchases to 123 tonnes in the first half of 2025. However, this figure is still down slightly year-on-year compared to the same period last year compared to the first half of 2024. Uzbekistan bought 9 tonnes of gold bars in June, while Kazakhstan bought 7 tonnes. Other notable gold buyers were the Czech Republic, China and Türkiye, each buying 2 tonnes in the month, while Ghana, Qatar, the Philippines and the Kyrgyz Republic each added 1 tonne./.
