Closely monitor the dredging area that affected 34 houses in Bac Lieu

On June 23, Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee Pham Van Thieu directed the implementation of solutions to prevent and overcome landslides on the banks of Bac Lieu - Ca Mau river in Hamlet 6, Ward 5, Bac Lieu city.

Accordingly, Mr. Thieu requested the People's Committee of Bac Lieu City to continue to closely monitor and supervise the dredging construction area of ​​Bac Lieu - Ca Mau River through the above-mentioned cluster 6, and related areas, especially during the current low tide combined with heavy rain, to have timely rescue and handling solutions to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.

At the same time, coordinate with relevant agencies and units to inspect, evaluate, and specifically determine the cause of landslides, according to authority, or propose to competent authorities to strictly handle violations in construction activities (if any).

Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee Pham Van Thieu also requested a specific review of each house. If necessary, consider moving households at high risk of landslides to safe places, and promptly resolve policies for people according to regulations.

As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , on June 21 and 22, a total of 34 houses of residents on Le Thi Hong Gam Street in Ward 6 were affected by the dredging of the Bac Lieu - Ca Mau River, of which some houses collapsed into the river. The affected area spanned 800m.

According to the Bac Lieu Province Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, the construction unit, Saigon 99 Traffic Joint Stock Company, coordinated with Ward 5 People's Committee to support four severely affected households with 5 million VND each.

The above mentioned dredging project on the Bac Lieu - Ca Mau riverbed is invested by the Vietnam Inland Waterways Administration.
