The US company OpenAI, behind the popular software ChatGPT, has just undergone a dramatic personnel reshuffle, in which CEO Sam Altman was suddenly fired by the board of directors. Hundreds of employees threatened to quit in protest, and Mr. Altman was eventually reinstated to his old role.

Ilya Sutskever, OpenAI’s chief scientist and board member, is seen as a central figure in Altman’s ouster. According to some rumors, OpenAI’s internal crisis may have stemmed from infighting between its leaders, particularly Altman and Sutskever.
According to The Atlantic magazine, Mr. Sutskever has built himself up as a “spiritual leader” at the company and has had unusual spiritual practices, even compared to eccentric personalities in the tech world.
Once, Mr. Sutskever and a group of OpenAI employees chanted over and over again: "Feel AGI! Feel AGI!", an acronym for "artificial general intelligence" - an AI model with the ability to learn and think like or better than humans.
